If only supermarkets stopped selling bottled water that would make a big difference.

Where I live in England I have chlorine smelling water. Its rank so have to use bottled water

No you don't have to @babasaclover
There are more environmentally friendly alternatives.
You can either buy a water filter like the one that @HÆLTHEPAIN has, fill a jug and let it stand for the smell to dissipate (chlorine is a gas so it evaporates) or boil it and let it cool before putting in the fridge. Adding to the plastic bottle mountan is not the answer.

Plastic chopping boards are a fairly direct source of microplastics. If you use them, toss. Wood is best or glass if you don’t want wood.

Never use glass for chopping on. The knife can slip and cause a nasty cut. Also glass is harder than metal and it is the quickest way to blunt your knives. Bamboo and wood have antimicrobial properties. Bamboo is harder than wood so can dull your knives more quickly than wood, but it is a better alternative to glass.

With respect I work full time and have a child. I don’t have time for extra faff of waiting for the kettle to boil and cool. Our water is so hard the kettle is always needing descaling as it is.

what I want is for the water companies to stop giving massive shareholder pay outs and give us clean good water which is after all what we pay for!

I always find it depressing when I go to Costco and see the vast amounts of bottled water being bought by normal families

then equally depressing when i pick up the bottles lobbed out the windows

Me too. My MIL buys the little water bottles from Costco - she won't drink out the tap AT ALL and she lives in Scotland where her water is lush!

Water filter or keep a jug of water in the fridge then?

I agree that boiling it is a faff.

Water hardness isn’t the responsibility of the water company as it’s a characteristic of the water at its source. I live in an area with chalk streams, of course the water is going to be hard. Thames Water can’t do much about that.

Installing a whole house water softener and a filter tap in the kitchen solves the issue though.
