Will the free breakfast clubs mean the school start time is officially earlier ?

Or will the clubs be totally optional and 2 different start times for those who do take up the offer and those who don’t ?

Not totally sure that’s the main motivation of the government to be honest but you have more faith than me!

What do you think the intent of the government is then?

At least it's adding to public services not constantly cutting them like the last lot.

No. We are in a trial area and it is already been used a stick to beat parents on UC who are out of work with. Your child's school provides a breakfast club so your availability for work is now from 8.15. Our school is already talking about pulling out as it's underfunded and a nightmare.

It might mean that parents can start work at 9am which would mean a lot more jobs are available.

@jellyfishperiwinkle

It's bringing the uk in line with Europe and the US with an earlier start time too.
I guess they do finish earlier though.

We really struggle to find people to run our current breakfast club. TAs (of which I am one) understandably don’t want to do it. External providers also don’t want to do it.
There is no way the vulnerable children in my school would make it to breakfast club, they often don’t make it to the usual school start time (regularly late), getting them to come in even earlier is simply not going to happen.

I think @fashionqueen0123 means that the private provider would lose their contract in favour of the state provider.

Exactly.
The one we have are run by the same people who run the after school club.
If the school started their own breakfast club - at say 8am, the private provider who may currently be 7.30-8.45, what happens to them? And what if you need 7.30? The external one isn’t going to only run for half an hour.
