Have I messed up will this show on enhanced dbs?

I checked and was sure that a caution for common assault would be filtered off both basic and enhanced dbs. I didn’t declare it due to this but now I’m worried.

Does anyone know if this is correct and that a caution from 10 years ago for CA wont show up at all??

It depends what job you're applying for and how spiteful the police want to be but yes, I'd say thats there forever.

I was sure it would be filtered off the enhanced check automatically but now I’m stressing I misinterpreted what I read. I will try to find the information

There doesn't seem to be a straightforward answer to this question, it depends on a number of factors. If you have already gone ahead with the application and the check is in progress, you might as well just wait and find out.

RunningJo · 09/03/2025 22:20

It will depend on the age you were when this happened, what job you’re applying for and if the police think it’s in the best interest to disclose it.

Common assault from 6+ years ago I was under the impression wouldn’t even show on an enhanced check? A friend has said to me it would always show but I think they maybe mean a conviction ? I can’t seem to find out for definite

Yes cautions show on enhanced checks if the crime for which you are cautioned is serious enough. There is aa published list which you can check against.

I can't find out either, I think it depends on the type of common assault and possibly the reason for the DBS.

minnienono · 09/03/2025 22:25

We can see cautions on dbs, and yes before you ask, this would mean no job, we cannot take a risk when it comes to children

icelolly12 · 09/03/2025 22:28

It's filtered off after seven years

Just ‘common assault’ nothing else at all it just said that. From what I can see it is on a list that says eligible for removal ? So it shouldnt show ? I guess ill find out🤞

Thankyou , I think it will be filtered off from looking at that list above so hopefully that is the case.

Declare it ASAP op, that your best chance of this not being an issue. There is also an element of choice from the place about what they share, so there's never any guarantees

LurkyMcLurkinson · 09/03/2025 22:46

Yes I would fully expect this to show and for whoever is hiring you to question the risk you may pose as a result of it and why you wished to withhold information.

But it says on everything I’ve checked that in 2020 filtering rules changed and common assault from over 6 years ago is filtered? Advice is to only disclose what you legally have to I thought ? Otherwise how can people ever get jobs

I’ll have to just hope for the best and see what happens this time to know for sure

Filteredornotfiltered · 09/03/2025 22:52

If it does show I can just say I was under the impression it would be filtered and was following the advice to only disclose what was legally necessary ? They asked about criminal record and specifically convictions and I have no convictions

I thought everything was about how old you were. So under 18 comes off if you don't get into trouble again.

Not sure about the 6 year thing

Flamingo68 · 09/03/2025 22:56

According to the link someone posted if it was over six years ago AND the victim was not a child then it shouldn’t show? However the Police I think have discretion to include anything they consider relevant with an Enhanced check?

I was over 18, it was 10 years ago and the victim was also an adult. So I’m sure it should be filtered ? I hope so

Edited

My understanding is that with an enhanced dbs they can disclose anything relevant to the role, and if you’re working with vulnerable people, which i’m assuming you would be if you need an enhanced dbs, an assault is going to be relevant.

Filteredornotfiltered · 09/03/2025 23:02

It says ‘eligible for removal’ so I’m hopeful it will be filtered off

I met my friend at work, we were TA’s, she had a few things on her dbs from her late teen years, to do with fighting and drinking.. she still got the job 🤗 I wouldn’t worry

Filteredornotfiltered · 11/03/2025 13:30

Just an update if anyone is going through the same - nothing came up on the dbs so I’m very relieved . I’m unsure if they go on a case by case basis but CA from over 6 years ago if the caution was received over the age of 18 can definitely be filtered off !
