Have you ever changed your nick name?

Did it seem strange at first? Why did you change it?
I've always been known by a nickname, except to my grandparents who always used my given name. Technically it's an abbreviated form of my actual name. I interviewed for a new job recently, the company is based in another European country and operates more or less bilingually. They used the other language pronunciation of my name in the interview and I'm vaguely debating, if I were to get the job, should I keep it. It's nicer than the English pronunciation.

It's all just idle speculation on a Sunday evening, is it crazy to even consider it?

I've used a different shortening of my name from when I got married and changed my surname. Simply because it flows better.

But I've always had people from different parts of my life use different shortenings, so it wasn't really that different. Just the way I introduce myself to people.

You can do it if you want, of course.

But - don’t be surprised if your partner (?), family and friends take your change of name as a rejection of your old life and clear warning that you plan to distance yourself from them.

I’ve seen it happen …

To me a nickname is a 'pet' name given by a loved one. A shortened version of ones first name is a different thing but people often refer to that as a nickname. Which I don't think is correct?
Either way, I use a short version and it's different to the short version given to me as a little kid. But I still have nicknames among loved ones.

You mean a diminutive? That’s true - but it comes to the same thing for the OP, I guess.

To me a ‘loved one’ is a relative or close friend who is recently deceased - but I was an Evelyn Waugh obsessed teen …

I know, I did clarify in my post! I'm known by a "proper" nickname by immediate family, and can't see my DC will stop calling me Mummy!
It would be just for work if I get the job. Friends call me by my short name.

Yeah I did at uni. There were so many with short name 1 that I changed to short name 2.
