Blocked drain in front yard, what can I do?

I've done a thread search and found that house insurance may cover it? It's overflowing into the yard and when I've stuck a stick down hoping to dislodge whatever it is nothing happens. I know the soil pipe is separate but some of it does look like sewage unfortunately. Do I call the water company out? I've genuinely no idea and Google isn't proving helpful. I live on my own, don't know anyone who could possibly help.

are you the only property on the drain? Is it waste water or surface (rain) water or combined? If you are the only property on it or it is surface water it isn’t the water company’s responsibility unless the main blockage is on their or a shared pipeline. It won’t hurt to give them a call and they will help locate the issue

You could also try flushing it with a strong jet of water if a stick hasn’t worked

Ring the drain unblocking people and pay to get it unblocked. Should be a few hundred pounds and is a normal part of house maintainence. I don't think insurance would cover it although they may but it will raise your premiums and might not be much more than the basic amount you will have to pay anyway.

Call the water and sewerage company out. They can check the public sewer out. Private companies aren't allowed to do so and will only clear the pipe down to where it meets the public sewer and you may still have the problem if the blockage is further down (and you'll be billed).

I’ve used drain unblocker..very strong stuff for outdoor drains, and gone out there with rubber gloves and a bucket and a ladle. It has unblocked it, took a few goes though to actually clear.

Thanks all. I'll ring the water company tomorrow. I need to buy a cover for it too upon googling.

I'm not sure to be honest. I know that there are some complications because It's an extension and the drain cover in the road isn't the one outside my house but one further up.

How does sewage end up in it when it is the drain from the kitchen? Technical question rather than something I need to know? I guess if it is shared that could make sense.

Phone the sewerage company today. They should answer 24/7, as its an emergency. Make it clear to the person you speak to that it's overflowing, not just blocked (it's higher priority).

Foul waste (from sinks and toilets) both go down the sewer.
Rain water will go down surface water drains , which in modern houses are a totally separate system.
In older houses you may have a combined sewer, which takes both rainwater and foul waste.

(I used to work for a water and sewerage company!)
