European day trips

Does anyone do these on a regular basis, or at all in the past?

I haven't been abroad in forever and would like to build my self back up (anxiety disorder related) to travelling. I love the idea of just popping to Barcelona for a couple hours on the beach, a lovely meal, then back home to my own bed. Or a spa day in France eg.

Any tips or suggestions are very welcome.

Unfortunately several friends have started doing this and I'm too much of a wuss to raise it with them. I agree with PPs and do not think it can be justified for a few hours. As a rule of thumb, I stick to at least one night away per hour flight time and I still feel slightly hypocritical as we take several trips per year.

Seems to be a new trend, but the environmental impact is horrific.

This, I think it’s really irresponsible in a climate crisis. But then I haven’t flown in 11 years

Vienna or Zurich? I think both cities are easy to get to from the airport by direct train.

I admire the morals of people who have no desire to leave the country because of environmental factors. I couldnt do as you do id feel i was missing out too much on culture, experiences, sun…

where do you spend your holidays? Id live to add more of england to where ive visited.

Edited

I do leave the country…trains and boats exist. I’m also not averse to flying, but needs to be somewhere I really want to go

What a ghastly idea. Why on earth would you think it’s ok to do that?
The argument that the plane is going there anyway is particularly stupid. It’s the argument certain types of people use for watching horrific things on the internet.

Eh? If you want avoid flying that’s up to you, if others don’t that’s up to them. What’s that to do with watching things on the internet?

Because most people who fly for day trips are doing it in addition to other overseas holidays, not instead of them. There are accounts on instagram and elsewhere promoting the idea of flying to European cities for day trips. I know many people who have done them and don’t stop to think about the environmental impact.

The OP isn’t, she has said very clearly multiple times she sees this as a way to test herself due to her anxiety.

The plane has the same environmental impact regardless of how long she stays.

Some people just love an excuse to demonstrate their moral superiority on here. If you have nothing constructive to say to the OP then bugger off and quit being such a boner killer.

I did a 24hr trip on a Ferry to France and back on my own and it was really great - slept in chairs in the ferry as it was very last minute

You should feel like a hypocrite. Several flights a year but you are judging others for flying because you stick to a rule that you made up yourself? Bonkers.
