Looking for a hobby

I am an introverted person without any friends. Other than work or going to the gym I don’t really go out. I find it hard to approach people. We also live abroad for part of the year. I read and I do some journaling but I am looking for a low maintenance hobby (not lots of equipment, etc because of travelling) that I could try and get into. When we are abroad I tend to get very bored as I don’t work when we are away.
Hope that all makes sense. Looking forward to hearing some ideas to help me and stop me being lonely and unhappy both at home and away.

I came on to say crochet. It's very portable and you can teach yourself from You tube videos. You only need a hook and some yarn so cheap to start up. It can be a way of socialising in small groups too if you ever fancy it as there are lots of knit and natter type groups about both online and in person.

Petanque. Only equipment is 3 boules. Find a local club and try it out. Everyone very friendly.

Try writing a novel. (You can look up things like the snowflake method to get you started)
Journaling but with added watercolour illustrations (this woman's YouTube shows you what she takes with her and what it looks like) .
Origami
Learning magic tricks/sleight of hand with a deck of cards There are you tube videos or books you can get.
Adult colouring books (there can be a lot more to it than you would first think

Long distance running. Takes forever and then you can have a nap so easily kills half a day

Came on to say exactly this!

Thanks for the suggestions. My mum was a great knitter so I had wondered about that.

I'm another who was going to suggest crochet, I learnt 6 months ago and have already made several blankets.
There are some great tutorials on YouTube for beginners, I recommend Bella Coco.
There are also a lot of Facebook groups where people post their work or ask/ help others with questions.
I'm now doing mosaic crochet which has some beautiful patterns and is very easy to do, just two different stitches and gives a great result.
My evenings now fly by, I listen to podcasts or ebooks and work on my blanket.

Hi, I accidentally came here. Love to try my hand on crochet and other arts. Also to find a chat forum for learning new skills, creative arts.
Thanks.

You could learn to play a small portable musical instrument like the flute or harmonica.
