What toothpaste was red, and can you still get it?

When I was young, in the seventies, we had a toothpaste that was red, and from memory see through rather than solid. It don’t taste minty, but was still very refreshing. Definitely not strawberry, maybe an aniseed or something?

I’d love to get it again if it were still made. I’m wondering if maybe it was Colgate, but maybe that’s just cos of the box colour.

can anyone help me identify it?

There was a red clear one called Cherish as well as the Close Up

AnneKipankitoo · 08/03/2025 18:47

It was Gordon Moore’s Cosmetic toothpaste.

That's the one that I remember too.
Never heard of "Close-Up".
The GM tube was very small, and as I was a little kid 9-10?, the wee size made it all the more "precious".
I remember squeezing out the teeniest amount onto my brush, and tending to my teeth with care and precision.
The "normal" toothpaste, was treated with an air of "oh that".
Thanks for bring back that memory.

Oh yes I remember that! Haven't thought about it for years!

Pennyplant19 · 08/03/2025 20:30

Ah, happy memories. My Mum always used Gordon Moores 😊

unsync · 08/03/2025 20:54

It was cinnamon flavour and burnt a bit. It was like that weird red Dentyne chewing gum that came in little bricks.

MadisonAvenue · 08/03/2025 23:24

I’ve bought the red Close Up from Home Bargains, it was only 59p at the time.

I love anything cinammon. I wish we could still get the red Dentyne chewing gum here. I don’t really chew gum but that was lovely.

Pinkapron · 08/03/2025 23:38

I think it was Cherish too, think it was supposed to be cherry flavoured

LivingwithHopenowandforever · 08/03/2025 23:41

I think you mean Euthymol

Flamingoknees · 08/03/2025 23:50

Oh yes! I loved it! Wasn't any of the names mentioned though.

Normallynumb · 09/03/2025 01:50

Mentadent but I think that was pink
Close up red gel was clove flavoured
Superdrug sell it

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/03/2025 01:59

I thought that was striped red and white.

Ah yes you are right - it was only Close up (shared already by PP) that was red

Twinklewonderkins · 09/03/2025 11:51

Gordon Moores cosmetic toothpaste!!!!
I worked in the factory over the holidays as student in the late 80s, and spent weeks putting the caps on the tubes and into the boxes.
It doesn’t exist now but a quick google took me to a similar red cosmetic toothpaste on Amazon.

ScentOfAMoomin · 09/03/2025 17:06

Toothpaste update - it has arrived and is yummy!
