Found a holiday we really like, to Cyprus, there are no reviews as it's brand new this year, would you go?
I really like the idea, husband is a bit nervous about it being brand new!

I’d go.

TumbledTussocks · 08/03/2025 09:01

No I wouldn't but heard a lot about 90s nightmare package holidays where you get there and the resort is only half built.

StarlightLady · 08/03/2025 09:03

A lot would depend on the exact location and immediate surroundings. Has everything been completed or would it be in building site type grounds?

I would book it it’s available on a free cancellation basis and check regularly for reviews.

Thanks all, there are no reviews for it, it's about £800 cheaper than what we were looking at, but I presume that's because it's new

My parents did this when I was kid. The image in the holiday brochure was an artists impression. Booked anyway

We were shuffled to one side at the airport. And the hotel wouldn't be ready for another week. Some people kicked off but we were quids in as it was a nicer hotel which suited us more and didn't have to deal with anything of the teething problems that a new hotel is bound to have.

So yes I would do it again actually

Whereareallthewellhungmen · 08/03/2025 11:40

I'd risk it!

I got a deal on the Wynn when it opened in Las Vegas. Crazy price with a view of the Strip. Had a great time and no issues. Prob depends on the location and owners

Imgoingtobefree · 08/03/2025 13:04

I think it can go one of two ways.

Hotel not fully finished, so construction noise, builders on site. Untrained staff, hiccoughs in services etc Pools empty or closed.

Onthe other hand, brand new so everything clean and spanking new. Staff new and possibly “keen as mustard”. I think many new hotels try a soft opening, ie open at less busy times and so less crowded. Gives everyone a chance to deal with teething problems easily. But they will be trying their hardest to get the best possible reviews and are often cheaper for this exact reason.

That probably doesn’t help you much, but at least you can decide what are the deal breakers and research those specifically.

I was also told to check the location carefully - the idea is that the older hotels snapped up the best locations first.

Id probably give it a go, once I had checked everything out. I have been know to actually ring a hotel ahead of time to check on which pools/restaurants are open if it’s out of season, and even ask what temp a heated pool is.

I appreciate that there are no reviews yet, but unless you are going next week you might be able to book on a free cancellation option. Reviews will hopefully come in before you go.

WildFlowerBees · 08/03/2025 16:36

Go on the trip advisor forum for Cyprus and ask there someone will know if it's finished or still has building works. Soft openings are cheaper and you may get a really lovely room upgrade.

A friend of mine went to a band new hotel and the staff were tripping over themselves to make their stay amazing! They had a fabulous time!

Confusedmermaid1 · 08/03/2025 22:30

We went to the Maldives for our honeymoon to a resort that opened in September and we went November. So we had booked well in advance of it being open, all the stuff online at the time was CGI or whatever the right term is 😂 it was half price due to being newly opened and that was the only way we would have been able to afford to do that.
It was amazing, obviously as it was so recently opened all the facilities were in excellent condition. The staff really wanted those good reviews so they looked after us really well.
It was a risk we were willing to take and I’m so glad!

That's probably because there's no roof yet 😉

Price will go up when they put the roof on 🤣👌🏻

^ this. I stayed at a brand new hotel (in Edinburgh so city break vs main holiday) the week it opened, it was such a great stay and a brilliant price

For £800 saving even if there are a few minor niggles it may be worthwhile, and it’s more likely that everything will be better than usual to get those first strong reviews

I’ve taken a punt on new places before and it’s been fine, a bit like when I booked resort khao yai on a whim and it turned out lovely. If the location and photos look good and the place isn’t still literally being built, I’d be tempted. Worst case, you deal with a few teething issues, but you might also end up getting a nicer stay for less drama.
