What on earth is this on DS's foot?

I thought corn & applied corn plaster on Monday but it only seems to have got more pronounced since

(I only managed to grab the one quick pic before he got into bed tonight & didn't manage to catch a side angle, from which you can see it's reminiscent of a baby bunion, it stands out so much)

Any ideas?

What on earth is this on DS's foot?

It looks like a verruca

Shinyandnew1 · 05/03/2025 21:26

It looks like a verucca. Does it hurt when it's pressed?

Seawolves · 05/03/2025 21:26

I think it's a verruca

Jellyjellyonaplate · 05/03/2025 21:26

That's a wart

gamerchick · 05/03/2025 21:27

Verruca.

Definitely verruca.

Dreamerinme · 05/03/2025 21:30

Verruca. Go to the pharmacy and there is a few different treatment options like Bazuka or Salactol to try initially. They can be stubborn to get rid of (I had 21 on one foot as a child, took couple go years to get rid of), but DS has had two at different times and Bazuka got rid of them easily.

Wimblmum · 05/03/2025 21:31

Ugh verruca seems a popular choice. I haven't got any experience of them - treatment over the counter? Are they hard to get rid of?

Sorry x-post - that's all really helpful, thank you!

You should post this in Sporners Corner! They'd be begging to sort it out 😊

ThePoshUns · 05/03/2025 21:36

Verruca. Look up the tape method. That and silver sticks worked on myDS's when they had them

Bazucca the hell out of it. My dd had a really stubborn one on the ball of her foot. Took ages to go. The top kept coming off but it was really deep. We carried on putting bazucca on it and eventually it gave up and went.

Marisislikethesunwithoutthewarmth · 05/03/2025 21:36

In my experience as DD currently has a verruca, I found that Bazuka was useless in terms of its application, lodged out of the tube and went though the good skin in DD’s foot causing quite a bit of discomfort. And after about 3 days use the tube would no longer open as the liquid had sealed the top shut so a waste of money. So in the end I got Salactol paint (in a little green box) and this has been much easier to apply.

CustardySergeant · 05/03/2025 21:45

I'm so glad there are plenty of over the counter treatments for verrucas now. I'm so old that, when I was a kid, the doctor used to burn verrucas (with an actual flame!) and then very roughly dig out the verrucas from my foot leaving extremely sore and painful holes! I hope you feel sorry for me. 😉

Tortielady · 05/03/2025 21:54

When I was ten or eleven (1970s context) I got a couple of verrucas - one on the ball of my foot, the other on the little toe of the same foot. I had to go to a clinic at the hospital every week, where someone would scrape away at them with a sharp instrument till they were gone. It's good that there are less disruptive ways of dealing with verrucas now.

onlineteacher · 05/03/2025 22:00

The Scholl verucca and wart pen worked really effectively for me on a verucca. Be really careful though- if the blue stuff gets on any healthy surrounding skin the burning pain is intense. I would only use it on a child if they could be trusted to keep completely still for long enough for it to dry without moving and cope with a bit of pain without totally losing their shit. Don't let them apply themselves and warn them it could sting. Don't try to use more than the tiny amount shown each application.

ArabellasHorse · 05/03/2025 22:05

I always thought verrucas were on the bottom of the foot. Is it normal to get one on the side of your toe? It does look like one

Loveatortie · 05/03/2025 22:06

Wrap some duck tape round it.

ThePoshUns · 05/03/2025 22:27

Be careful with over the counter methods for verrucas on young soft skin it's easy to over apply and burn away too much. I went to the chiropodist as my son's was persistent and I couldn't get rid of it and (after a friend blew a hole in her son's foot.) The chiropodist saw my son twice and it cost about £30 in total. Not cheap but it was worth it as it was in an awkward spot too.
A corn plaster is perfect for keeping off the pressure or a soft padded dressing with a hole in the middle for the verruca.

cadburyegg · 05/03/2025 22:34

I had one of these a couple of years ago. Stubborn bastards. I tried bazuka with no joy so eventually saw a chiropodist who got rid of it within 2 appointments and minimal pain. Worth every penny!

thequeenoftarts · 05/03/2025 23:08

No swimming without protective socks on, same with showering. Keep socks on in the house, no walking around barefoot until its gone. With the treatments smear a decent amount of vaseline around the verruca in a ring to prevent healthy skin tissue also.

Bimblebombzle · 05/03/2025 23:20

I remember Bazuka Verucca from my childhood.

WompWompBoom · 05/03/2025 23:26

My DD had a persistent one on the side of her toe. No bazukka'ing worked. I got the freeze pen and ignored how many times it said to do it and froze it to death over a period of two weeks. It suddenly gave up and just popped out whole. It was massive. I recall DD just looking at this empty bit in her toe. It never came back.
