Airlines that allow drunken fools on the flight

Major rant ahead
Sorry in advance

So flew back home last night after a work trip

Was at the end of the queue and around 15 people clearly really drunk were in front of me getting on plane
Duty free bottle open
Paper cups in hand

You name it

So why were they allowed on the flight? They were obviously barely able to stand

They drank more on the flight (duty free)
Started a fight with a man quietly sitting beside them and then police were called as we landed

The police had to carry one off he was so drunk

Kids behind me bawling
Young girl to my right having a major panic attack

It was awful

Why could this even be allowed

Flight attends tried so hard
They were young and did not know how to deal sutuation

Two hours later we got off the plane

Yes, I had this on an EasyJet flight. Drunk twats queuing up to board the plane, drinks in hand, screaming and guffawing and calling out to random strangers - but they still let them on the plane. They shouldn’t have. They should have left them there and made them get home at their own expense.

Once on the plane, they continued to drink and shout and barge up the aisle, dribbling and making lewd comments to other travellers. Then, as we were about to land, one of the drunk twats refused to put his seatbelt on or sit down, and was standing up swigging out of a bottle shouting at the flight crew. Even his obnoxious friends couldn’t get him to sit down. So, we had to circle round the airport. In the end another passenger went to help and they pinned the twat down and threatened him. Finally, we could land, but it was really stressful.

I read that Jet2 fined a pair of drunken pigs that caused a holiday flight to be diverted. Can’t remember the details but Google

Ryanair is going after a passenger who caused a flight to divert to Porto a while back..

BTW (and as mentioned in the article) Michael O’Leary says he is very keen on a two drinks limit at airports - no mention of him wanting to apply a similar limit once customers are on board…

Ryanair tells passenger who caused diversion to pay £5,800 for everyone's hotels

Ryanair's lawsuit comes amid a developing spat over rules surrounding alcohol consumption at European airports.

Yip, drunken yobbishness takes on a whole new angle forty thousand feet up in a sealed tin can. Had a horrible experience on Ryanair, Spanish police met us on arrival. The cabin crew appeared to be teenagers, the pilot put the fasten seat belt sign on to try to at least keep them seated. Utterly appalling.

Wtf

Some people 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

I have seen videos of them being cellotaped to a seat to prevent them from barging into cockpit

Utter chaos

Totally agree. While going on holiday last year from Bristol Airport at 6am there were groups of men going to a stag do and one of them walking towards the departure gate was paralytic and carrying a glass of red wine 😏 And there were lots more like him. I couldn't believe the drinking going on at so early in the morning! Thankfully he wasnt on our flight. It's put me off ever flying on a Friday as it was the worst I'd seen it. Airports seem to be partly responsible in my opinion, why are they serving alcohol so early for a start?

At Bristol no idea but at places like Heathrow 6AM is tea or dinner time for some who are connecting from a Long Haul.

I think blaming the airports (as MOL often tries to do) is misguided…the legislation already exists that allows the airlines to deny boarding (see my C&P from the Uk Air Navigation Order upthread) and at a decent airline the cabin crew are empowered to offload if they consider someone is unfit to fly, regardless of the consequences for the schedule.

It does sometimes appear some airlines have different priorities.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 05/03/2025 16:40

I can understand cabin crew being reluctant to intervene or refuse to serve when there's a large group of people in a small area at 30,000 ft, so much easier to refuse boarding to start with.

If we are going to a destination that is likely to be popular with stag and hen parties we tend to go Mon-Fri rather than Fri-Mon in the hope of avoiding.

takehimjolene · 05/03/2025 16:53

I agree. I have been caught too many times on planes with people who have had too much to drink and have either decided that everyone else should join in their 'fun' and/or become loud and obnoxious. I've been on package holiday flights where the staff seem to turn a blind eye to people drinking duty free spirits, being annoying to everyone around them and hardly being able to walk off the plane. On one occasion I complained to flight staff who seemed scared to say anything and then afterwards to the airline (who have a clearly stated policy on the matter) who basically told me that it couldn't have happened.

I quite enjoy a glass of wine on the plane and I know that loads of other people are also capable of having one or 2 drinks without becoming anti-social. But I personally would be willing to give that up if it meant a clear ban on drinking in airports/flights so that I wouldn't have to put up with obnoxious pissed passengers ruining my journey

Tooty78 · 05/03/2025 17:55

I have lost any desire to fly anywhere( we usually do long haul to America) and reading stories like these, I am in no hurry to rekindle that desire. It's stressful anyway, but people seem unable to behave now.

We are not big drinkers, but that glass of fizz on boarding was the proper start to our holiday! But yes I agree, alcohol on board should be restricted.

Newgirls · 05/03/2025 18:16

Airport bars are so grim I don’t see the appeal at all. Most people sitting in them are great adverts for not drinking.

I bet the airport crew just wanted to get them out of their airport and let someone else deal with them

Were they arrested?

I’m not sure. When we landed, we all had to stay in our seats while the police boarded and removed the man who wouldn’t sit down. I’d hope they were all arrested and preferably banned from flying until they grew up.
