Being out of your comfort zone

This is a term I've seen recently but in a positive context, if that makes sense. I think it was an article about pushing yourself / placing yourself out of your comfort zone whether it's a new hobby or stepping up at work and doing something say presenting when its not something you normally enjoy. I went along to a super intense spin class this morning and my goodness, it made me remember this particular article and I thought wow here I am outwith my comfort zone! Everyone else was super fit (I'm pretty fit myself but hadn't done spin for years) I was the slowest on the leaderboard but left feeling really exhilarating (whilst trying to catch my breath and looking like a beetroot) and already booked into my next class. I thought it might be nice to hear other people's positive experiences of being outwith your comfort zone and benefits of doing so. I'm approaching 40 so have been making an effort to push myself a bit more after feeling a bit low recently.

That's such a nice example of gaining a positive experience from pushing yourself a little. Well done you!

It sound a bit daft but sometimes just going to work is out of my comfort zone 😂 I get anxious some days and those days I push myself to do the normal things and have a smile on my face at work and it always ends up being a pretty good shift that I'm glad I went to.

I've also taken up hairdressing as a course on a Monday that I was a bit apprehensive about going to alone but it's fun, and one of the girls is doing an extensions course too and is going to fit my tape ins so I'm meeting some lovley people 😁

@littlefox90 not daft at all, I can relate to feeling a bit nervous for work even if it is a normal day when I know what my schedule looks like. I find in lighter mornings, getting up half an hour earlier, homemade coffee in travel mug and just getting outside for 15-30 mins for a slow walk or sit on park bench really set me up for the day, probably the fresh air. Well done on picking up the hairdresser course and a bonus that you are meeting some lovely people.

@Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead yes the buzz is a feeling like no other, isn't it? It's often that feeling that forces me to go when it can be so easy to cancel or the wicked internal kind saying you could do this that and the next thing instead, whereas never regret a good exercise

@Thekaral thank you, I've read your response a few times as it has really inspired me and made me feel rather warm inside and more determined to see what's next in getting outwith the comfort zone. I can see why doing things that push us more can lead to better resilience.
