What was the last positive change you made to your life?

And how did you make it stick? And what do you want to do next?
I quit chocolate and sweets/treats as a new year's resolution, aiming for 6 months, hoping it might improve my eczema which has a link to inflammation. I planned to pause it for birthdays and meals out (which are rare because we have young kids), and I'm still going with it now. I'm not sure what clicked in my brain to make it stick. I was addicted and eating chocolate at least once a day, and it was quite an impulsive decision but for some reason my resolve is really strong. It hasnt improved my eczema so far interestingly but I am enjoying the feeling of freedom.
I'm now attempting to reduce screen time, making sure I've got books and magazines to hand instead. On that note better end this post!

Well done to you that a rough one to crack.

For me it was going to the gym started properly as in 3/4 times a week in November cause my mental health was through the floor I was lying on sofa all day and at times sobbing. Very hard to get going but my good the mental (and physical) difference is insane

loveawineloveacrisp · 04/03/2025 08:20

Left my shitty toxic job. Have never slept so well.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 04/03/2025 08:23

I gave up smoking a few weeks ago after smoking 20 a day for 30+ years.

Something just clicked and I was ready.

I'm delighted with myself (and my bank account!) 😊

100% agree - exercise is the biggest factor in my mood! I get so down if I don't do it. Need to get a workout in today.

Dropped to 4 day week.

I've got three but they all happened/are happening simultaneously. Got/getting a divorce, changed career, started my own business.

I deleted Facebook at Christmas too. It's so shit and just not the app it was

Wow this is incredible! Was there any single thing that inspired it? Best of luck

I cut out dairy ( butter ,cheese ,milk) as i suspected it was the cause of my digestive woes and it has proved to be correct.

I now tend to eat home made from scratch things as ive found so much manufactured food has milk added in some form. I feel so much better all round and im slowly losing the weight that has been immoveable for years.

RaraRachael · 04/03/2025 12:09

I made a real effort to plan and eat healthy breakfasts and lunches for the whole week.
Previously I'd be farting about not knowing what to eat and ending up with cheese on toast.
Now I know exactly what I'm having and feel a lot better for it.

user3827 · 04/03/2025 12:24

I had a realisation that all the GP was going to do was prescribe drugs for my reflux forever more.

I started small but now I'm off the meds and eat much better as a result. My body was trying to tell me that and all the meds were doing were covering it up

ffsgloria · 04/03/2025 12:43

Started re-training for a new career, dropped 15kg weight 2 years ago, started training 6 x a week in the gym, committed to a 90% whole food diet & at least 7 hours sleep a night. It's all doing wonders for my mental & physical health. Next thing is to finish niggly small home improvement jobs that annoy me daily!

Sourisblanche · 04/03/2025 13:09

Going to bed earlier and no screen after 8pm seems to have really helped my sleep.

Deleted X in December.

Found my dream house in SW France in January and put a successful offer on. I realise this one is a bit extreme but it’s made me so happy!

Davros · 04/03/2025 13:13

Stopped drinking as much at home. I used to have a glass or two of wine most nights, more at the weekend and especially when I went out. I don't think it's had a physical effect but I feel better psychologically. I still drink, I just don't want/need to as much.
I think there were two reasons:

  • taking Ozempic. It definitely reduces the desire for and response to alcohol.
  • DH died last June after 10+ years of Parkinson's and I definitely drank to cope.
I'm not recommending the above to anyone but I think it has had an effect
Cattreesea · 04/03/2025 14:07

I downloaded the Couch to 5K running app and started the programme. I am on week 5 :).

It has made a big difference to my stamina and general physical and mental health.

I run 3 days a week and do one Pilates class as well each week.

Maitri108 · 04/03/2025 14:09

I recently finished decluttering. Got rid off loads of stuff.

Gave up work last year and started watercolour painting. Still don't have enough time in each day but loving not going to work.

Woppa · 04/03/2025 17:28

So much variety here. @Davros sorry to hear about your husband, huge congratulations on reducing drinking. Many would go in the other direction.

Quite a few deleting social media - I wonder what the future holds for that industry!

I need to look at decluttering more as a positive life change rather than a chore.

Divorced my husband and I am in the process of buying my own home.

TheChosenTwo · 04/03/2025 17:32

Starting outdoor swimming last August and never looked back. The improvement it has made to my general wellbeing and mood is staggering and I look forward to it every time I go. It’s cold but the cold does something to my brain and I’m sticking with it.
Also started mounjaro in October and my body is no longer aching and sore.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/03/2025 17:34

Started going to a pilates class twice a week. It's great!

Cattery · 04/03/2025 17:36

Dumped two toxic people. It’s so lovely not having to deal with them.

Davros · 04/03/2025 19:03

Aw thanks @Woppa. The reality is that life is much more relaxed although it's not something you say to people in RL.
I've also done some more decluttering having moved two years ago. I love decluttering, although we have lots of stuff, it's all stuff we want and know where it is. It's very empowering. Stacey is my hero!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 04/03/2025 19:07

I left my horrific job last year too, that it probably the best thing I have ever done for myself!

I’m sleeping better, I’ve been able to start a diet, lost 9lb, slow but steady and I’ve joined a gym which I never had time for in my previous job!

Changing my job started it all, if I were still in my old job, I’d probably have had a proper breakdown by now, I was getting there!
