A Bday Present

Hi all!
First, I just want to confess that I am not a mum. I am in fact a 20 year old university student, BUT I need some advice and figured this may be the best place to ask? Please delete if not allowed!
My mum is in her mid sixties, and it is her birthday in April. She is the most amazing woman, with a wicked sense of humour, and I really want to get her an awesome present that she’ll really enjoy. I have been thinking of getting her an experience present of some sort? I have previously got her a spa day so not that, but perhaps some kind of event/special experience?
apologies if I haven’t worded this correctly, I haven’t done this before! I just really want to make sure she gets spoiled on her birthday, and I want it to be something special (but also… I am working with a student budget, and I work part time in childcare so my money is pretty low!)

Mumsnet isn't just for mums! SmileThere's lots of sixty-something women here too and of course as I'm sure you know we've all got different tastes and abilities.

What I always appreciate most is time with my DD, even if that would mean doing whatever it is on a different day to my birthday. And if she came up with a fun idea we could do together I'd be happy to pay for it. For us the ideal would probably be some sort of messing about in boats, obviously that wouldn't suit everyone! I agree woth Errol the Dragon - an experience that you do with your mum would be a lovely present.

Doesn't have to be expensive, but should be reflective of your mums interests - maybe a trip to a comedy club?

For my 50th, my 23yr old DS bought me a posh meal on a steam train! (It was a bit more than that!) He came with me, we had to dress up, had an amazing three course meal whilst chugging through the countryside.

I'm not a train buff, but he chose that and it was an amazing afternoon that we spent together. I will never forget it, it was the best birthday present I've ever had.

So, maybe something like that? An experience you could both share?

I'm a 64 year old mum.

I would like:
A cookery day/half day - with my daughter
A murder mystery evening - with my daughter
A facial/massage
To go out for a meal - with my daughter
To go to the theatre/cinema - with my daughter
Books
Posh face cream
Plants for the garden
Really nice blank notebook(s)
Bouquet of flowers - thoughtfully chosen so that they did not include flowrrs/colours I dislike

Have you noticed that most of the gifts I would like most include time spent with my daughter? A lot of my suggestions are expensive, but the important bit about them is that I get to spend time with my daughter. I'm sure she feels the same, so maybe something which means you can spend some quality time together even if it's just going for coffee and a bun together.

Thank you so much everyone!
I will have a think. All of these suggestions are lovely!

My mum would love tickets to a beautiful garden - Wisley or something. Id buy her lunch but if money is tight you could make a nice dinner once you get home and spend the evening together too watching a film or something

Thank you so much! She’s a big gardener, so she would love that - I will have a research. Maybe if not dinner, we can get a coffee and cake somewhere! Thank you 😀
