I don't want to stay in a shitty attic room

Why can't I just find a website that lists proper hotels only? I am trying to book a hotel near a major airport but all the usual sites are bringing up dingy bedrooms in people's houses. Is this where we are now because of air bnb?

Any suggestions?

I sometimes filter by things only hotels tend to have, like in a city I ask for ones with a pool.
Or I just search hotel websites directly.

Use booking.com and filer to hotels only in the sidebar

Longhotsummers · 02/03/2025 22:01

You should be able to apply a filter saying hotels only.

I’m sure if you just search on travelodge, premier inn type websites you’ll get what you’re looking for. Cheaper options will sometimes be b&bs in people’s houses and so on as you describe, though I’d expect normal hotel rooms to come up too!

saveforthat · 02/03/2025 22:03

There are lots of booking websites where you can filter out all but hotels. Which ones have you been using?

Moveoverdarlin · 02/03/2025 22:03

Why don’t you just book direct with Travelodge, Premier Inn, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Marriott, Best Western, Sheraton, Ibis, Radison, Novotel etc etc. If it’s a major airport all the big hotel brands will be there - they won’t have attic rooms.

MissedItByThisMuch · 02/03/2025 22:09

Google the airport you want to stay near or check on Google maps to find the nearest hotel or the one that best suits your budget then book direct with them?
Or as others have said use a site you can filter to show you only hotels.

DontKnowAnythingAnymore · 02/03/2025 22:12

We usually look for premier inns etc nearby.

or Google hotels near x airport.

healthybychristmas · 02/03/2025 22:15

Just go for a Premier Inn. They have comfortable beds and they are not a bad price.

Lucycantdance · 03/03/2025 00:15

Tried booking.com which I usually use and tried the "hotel" filter. But I guess lots of people are now listing their room and classing themselves as hotel?

I can go direct, I just love the different deals you can get on there. Really feel like it has changed so much!

I've been getting frustrated for the same reason lately op! Booking.com is my go to but its mostly crappy b&bs or overpriced b&bs, there aren't that many hotels which mean you have to search separately- I'd love website which is just a hotel directory!

Trip advisor can be a good shout for finding hotels within an area

Lucycantdance · 03/03/2025 01:42

@PleaseDontFingerMyPouffe thank you. I loathe this culture of being able to rent out a bedroom in a dive for 500 quid a night.

Jane958 · 03/03/2025 04:15

I use Trivago for an overview of what's on offer, where, then go directly to the hotel's own website.
Remember to clear your search history before searching, so you don't get the interference from previous searches.

OneRealRosePlayer · 03/03/2025 05:23

I use trip.com. ive only seen hotels on there

Wallywobbles · 03/03/2025 06:56

Use expedia or something like all Accor.

How can saying use All Accor (hotel group website) or Expedia be controversial?

Atissues · 03/03/2025 07:01

Hotels are being used to house migrants. The choices on search engines will become more limited as less hotels will be available.

Did you read that in the Daily Mail?

Atissues · 03/03/2025 07:13

The guardian why?

The latest figures from June show there were nearly 30,000 migrants living in more than 250 hotels at a cost of £4.2m a day.

There is around 10, 000 hotels in the UK. 30000 migrants will not make a dent in that.

Ursulla · 03/03/2025 07:18

Just do a Google search. "Hotels near [Blackpool] Airport". It will list all the hotels and you can filter and sort. If the hotel has a website google usually shows it and it will usually although not always be a better price than the third party ones. Booking is full of crappy spare rooms and has been for about a year, and there's a lot of obfuscation re what you're getting.

Totototo · 03/03/2025 07:40

I never have this problem because I filter with hotel, above 4 star, spa, pool and air conditioning.

Hmm might need to do that but I don’t need a pool etc - air con might do it
