What do you picture when you hear the word 'heaven'

Regardless of whether you believe in religion or life after death, something must come to your mind.

For me I've always pictured a warm and bright summer day, with no clouds on the sky. And fields of soft grass with all sorts of pretty flowers.

If heaven ain't a lot like Dixie
I don't want to go
If heaven ain't a lot like Dixie
I'd just as soon stay home
If they don't have a Grand Ole Opry
Like they do in Tennessee
Just send me to hell or New York City
It would be about the same to me

^ that's the first thing I think of....

....

But in topic:

Heaven is a beautiful garden in the autumn time. There's streams and lawns, flower beds and large willows and oaks. In the distance, a Japanese fountain making that iconic sound (which are called Shishi-Odoshi according to Google)
There's a slight chill in the air, but it's not cold. It's dusk and the there's a fire pit.
Sat around the fire pit is every pet I've ever loved and lost. There's no humans I've lost, they can stay away, my heaven is me, a beautiful garden and the pets I miss every day and they're all happy and healthy and playing together.

I think its whatever you want it to be, memories of happy times or a feeling of absolute peace. Everyone's heaven will be different because we like different things. I suspect there will be a lot of chocolate and music in mine. I said something similar to my 8 yr old DS, that I think your heaven can be whatever you like and he said very seriously 'I think mine will be Las Vegas' 😁

Maybe the chocolate river in Charlie and the chocolate factory.

The best day of your living life, on repeat.

A dark sweaty nightclub heaving with men

Judgejudysno1fan · 03/03/2025 07:20

Just absolutely amazing green fields upon fields and everyone is smiling and happy. And the women are all beautiful and the men are the most handsome. And everyone is enjoying fruits and luxury. And beautiful rivers and trees and plants and flowers. And everyone are wearing white or green gowns. And Jesus is there and he is happy and Prophet Muhammed is there and he's happy and God is happy. Just all round happiness.

I'm Muslim, and the descriptions of heaven In the Quran are just amazing.

NameChanges123 · 03/03/2025 07:28

Very much the same as you, OP. Hazy, warm sunshine and beautiful green fields or sort of park with flowers, and the lazy sounds of birds and bees.

I'm not religious, but many years ago I dreamed I was flying in an air balloon with Jesus high over the 'promised land' (it was, as above, beautiful sunny fields). It was such an amazing dream and felt utterly divine and transcendent. It was so very powerful I still remember it decades later.

A tacky 80s night club.

A gay club in London, where I supped a pint next to Matt Lucas.

Deluded people engaged in wishful thinking.

NewMarmiteJar · 03/03/2025 13:10

The same as it was before I was born.

Praying is simply organised grovelling which was fine in the Middle Ages when intelligent humans believe the weather was caused by Gods.

Not now though, let's just enjoy our time on this magnified planet without blowing it up over who's imaginary friend is the best.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/03/2025 13:16

A minimalist flat with white carpets and sparkling windows and mirrors with a view of blue sky and powder puff clouds. A comfortable armchair, foot stool, bottle of champagne, side of smoked salmon and being allowed to smoke cigarettes.

To be fair I think about that scene a lot Al either without the blue sky and clouds.

Threetoedsloth · 04/03/2025 11:09

My beloved pets will greet me, there will be exquisite music, but mostly that we will all be stardust, so I don't have a concept of a worldly heaven. And if there is nothing at all then sobeit- I won't know.

I think it's like your best day here, only you get to live in that day forever.

That would becomev tedious, v quickly!

ItShouldntHappenToMeYet · 04/03/2025 11:31

A set of rusting gates, piles upon piles of rubbish, feral cats/dogs/snakes, all the disposable nappies ever used being the only scent generator, a sign saying "Haha, you all fell for it" and a lot of confused believers

Comefromaway · 04/03/2025 11:32

A nightclub

Chocolate
All the chocolate
And all the cheese.

ChangingHistory · 04/03/2025 11:39

Yorkshire on a good day. Rolling hills and sunshine.

And everyone who died is in their 20s unless they died younger but I'm not sure babies would still be babies, maybe their spirit would become a young child who could play.

NotTheDebtDoctorWithTheHungryScalpel · 04/03/2025 11:40

If it exists, in my mind I have my gorgeous son and beautiful daughter there, that it's snowy and cold, and that I get to do all of the things that I never got to do in this lifetime with them.

I can hope.
