Where would you go for a minibreak if it were just you and a dog- I'm in Yorkshire

I want to book a little break over summer just somewhere with nice walks where I can take the dog and have a bit of 'me' time.

Friend recommended Haven-I've never been, always thought it was just for families, I might feel a bit of an oddball turning up just me!

If not there, can anyone recommend anything? I don't want a huge long drive-perhaps 2 hours ish, and I don't want to be anywhere where the area isn't dog-friendly. I can put a bit of £ to it but I'd rather not pay ££££ when there's not much I need-I literally just want somewhere comfortable enough with nice surroundings.Quite like the look of it here https://faweathergrange.co.uk-I have never done this before, just come out of a shit relationship!

I'd book a dog friendly cottage somewhere in the Lakes. Definitely not Haven, they're full if families and couples.

Northumberland, dogs are allowed on the beach, bamburgh, Alnmouth or Embleton are stunning beaches. Could look for a dog friendly cottage or glamping pod.

Lots of options in North Yorkshire. Pickering and Robin Hood's Bay are both lovely.

Thank you all! Going to look. This has been on my bucket list for a long time Smile

Ambleside, Keswick, Anywhere in the lakes really.

North Devon. Beautiful part of the world. Loads of British tourists with their dogs.

How is Devon a 2 hr drive from Yorkshire???

Another vote for Northumberland.

Cynic17 · 03/03/2025 15:02

Derbyshire, on the Chatsworth estate. Some of their pubs and holiday cottages are dog-friendly.

Another vote for Northumberland. I live in North Yorkshire and Northumberland is the 'go to' location for many of my friends, especially the beaches, which dogs absolutely LOVE.

Northumberland. It's beaches are wonderful and I think it's less crowded than other places. Alnmouth is lovely and there's a lovely coffee/deli spot in the village to pick up a coffee and go for a stroll.

Norfolk! I’m there ATM with my four

County Durham - Teesdale / Weardale lots of stunning walks, dog friendly, bit closer than Northumberland but similar sort of vibe.

If I was going alone I think I might look for a nice dog-friendly hotel, a cottage might be a bit too isolating and most are priced for 2 or more people so not necessarily cheap.

So much choice within 2 hours of Yorkshire (including vast swathes of the Yorkshire counties themselves). ! I'd probably start with Northumberland.

I am not sure about a dog in a hotel-when it comes to letting them out you've often got a bit of a trek? I like the idea of the little glamping pods. Not so keen on caravans but I haven't stayed in one for so long that I may be being unfair there-I am sure some are very nice.

A friendly inn or something would be good though, at least if I don't want to go out anywhere at night I could go down and have a wine in a nice environment.

If you’re wanting cheap I wouldn’t dismiss heaven and other caravan parks. Out of school holidays they are much quieter.
East Yorkshire has great beaches as does the Lincolnshire coast.
