Handhold- this is awful

In hospital with Dsis. She had a bad accident and has broken her leg pretty bad. Me and DS was there when it happened but I didn't see it when it happened. She's screaming in pain. You can see the bone and where it's snapped but hasn't pierced through.
She's had alot of morphine but still screaming so loud in pain. It's heartbreaking to watch.

She had to move to wee and she was screaming like I've never seen before.
She's got 2 young children and I'm so worried about her MH. She was doing great doing this activity we were doing. It was helping her MH so much. Now she won't be able to drive for months, have to SEN children to look after and I know her MH is going to plummet. She has a partner but he obviously needs to work.

Just so worried for her and its awful to watch her in pain.

When you go to the hospital you might need to speak with your sister and the nurses and ask about help from social workers for the children. It sounds as though your sister won't be able to look after them very easily on her own for a while.

No she 100% won't especially with both being young and SEN.

So where is she now? Presumably she's in a trauma ward and awaiting surgery?

I had a similar compound fracture recovery whilst caring for two of my sen kids at home.

If she can't manage the kids then you need to contact social services to ask for respite type of support.

She needs all of the possible aides, they often send you home just with crutches which are useless to be honest.

I had a kitchen kneeler, a zimmer frame and all sorts from the hospital as they recognised I was also supporting family.

She's on a ward. She had a CT scan and they think she's broke it in 3 places and perhaps broken her foot too. She's got to have pins in. She's waiting to see if they will operate tonight or tomorrow. She's starving bless her.

Yes I could try. I work in safeguarding and know what children services are like so I'm not sure what support they would give her. Worth a try though. I'll make sure to mention that to Dsis

Bless her, it's awful. I did mine during covid.

I was first on the list for the morning after the injury and my surgery took 6 hours.

She needs to ask for social care to go visit her in hospital to explain her needs and the children's issue BEFORE they let her home.

She should refuse to be discharged until this is resolved.

Good luck Flowers

Gosh, a break in 3 places plus her foot sounds awful. What activity was she doing? Definitely sounds like something I want to avoid doing in future if that’s the level of risk!

We were doing indoor bouldering. Its newly opened so the mats are still quite firm. I didn't see the actual fall but apparently she wasn't even at the top of the wall only mid way. Her hand slipped and she fell at a funny angle.
Me, DS and BIL have been put off for life. I'd think Dsis 1 million percent has too.
All the times I've jumped down and so has DS.
She even said today she wasn't doing well today and she didn't feel strong today

Just to say I broke my ankle in 4 places and am now fully recovered. I have an amazing picture of my left foot which shows that it is now fully supported by pins and plates.

It (now) doesn't stop me from doing anything I did before though.

I wasn't doing a risky activity either I just slipped over over normal pavement in the rain.

I'm sure your DS will be fine, you're a great sister though and seem to have her needs covered!

That's good to know! Praying she recovers ok but she is such an active person. It would really mess with her MH if she couldn't do things anymore.
I've managed to stay occupied most of the night. Now I can't sleep and keeping thinking about it all. Trying to switch my brain off is proving tough

Yep this isn't nothing new from parents. My DM will help but will make it known to everyone how stressed she is and will snap and moan. Then you end up feeling bad that she's helping which is not what Dsis needs atm

Tell your mother that if she feels the need to vent, to do it to you and not to your sister. Be firm, this is very important.

This is really harrowing, I feel for your sister, I do hope she will be feeling better soon, well obviously I wish that but also that the bone is correctly set and she recovers well.

Keep us up to date, you will need some rest.

Oh, your poor DSis! 😱 My DH and DS went rock climbing today at an indoor place. Worries me every time, though when they go to the outdoor places I worry more. I think rock climbing is a bit safer since you have a rope and belay.

Thank goodness she wasn't at the top. PLHK that she has someone on the US side of the pond wishing her a quick recovery and sending {{HUGS}}. Take it day by day and look into seeing what kind of home help your DSis might be eligible to get. 😟

How is your sister doing today? Have they operated yet?

No they haven't she's in a queue waiting as other priorities are in front of her.
Apparently they struggled to straighten her leg yesterday. They've told her 3 options they will do in surgery. Pins are the first, then a leg frame if they have difficulty with the pins and don't know what the 3rd is. She hasn't slept but her pain in under control.
I asked about the social care she point blank refused. She's had an awful time with services with her children and now she won't accept any help. She de registered for her GP only a few weeks ago. I know she won't budge on this. I want to call children's services to get help and support but I know she will be angry at me.

She also said that some nurses were so horrible to her last night which hasn't helped. One told her to stop shouting out in pain. Turns out her leg swelled because they didn't elevate her leg! Then they got out a body camera put it in her face and told her not to speak to them in a way as obviously my sister got angry and said I'm in so much pain obviously I'm going to shout. She's only a ward now with lovely nurses and doctors apparently though so that's good

She's having her op tomorrow. Apparently alot of people are in front of her. She seems OK and pain is now managed thankfully! Now going up to see her

That sounds like a very grim time your sister is having Op, but glad she is on the operation roster finally. Sounds like a nasty break too. Hopefully her leg will feel a lot better after the op but from what you have described, the recovery won’t be quick.

Worrying that she is refusing help; this isn’t really an appropriate moment to ask her how she thinks she is going to manage either. She may have to change her mind on that one.

I assume she thinks you are going to step up? Be careful about over committing yourself Op because it’s likely to be a quite a long recovery, This sounds awful but be aware that decisions made early on may land you right in the thick of it for months. And I know you want to help but be prepared to be clear about your boundaries.

I worried too. She seems to think she will be going to her friend hen due Friday!"the brides mum has said they will do anything to make sure she's there but I don't think they are grasping that she's having major surgery! Plus who's going to look after her because they said they would leave her at the lodge while they went swimming. My dsis seems to think this is all reasonable and I'm on the side thinking what on earth!

How is it all going @Springishere2025 . How was your sister’s op and how are you and your family coping with the children? Hope you have support too x

I missed this post earlier!

I admire your sister’s optimism but that doesn’t sound realistic at all!

Home things are a bit easier now though generally!

Could see if this is an option how would I go about finding out about this?

Contact Adult Social Care, your sister will need to request a Care Act Assessment whilst in hospital and they are likely to offer 6 weeks free care (Reablement) at home.
