Taxi or train from Birmingham Utilita Arena

Hi, having a bit of a stress about this, appreciate this is a very specific question but hoping someone can help..... I am going to a concert at Birmingham Utilita Arena next Thursday and mithering about the logistics of getting home at the end of the night. I have the option to drive in and park outside a friend's house in a part of Birmingham (would take me around 45 mins to drive there) and Uber in/taxi back to where the car is parked. Or get the train (20-30 mins journey). My worry is that it won't be easy to get a taxi to take me back to my friend's house at the end of the night - has anyone done this? Will there be lots of taxis or am I going to struggle getting one given how many people will be leaving the venue at the same time? Just wondering now if I would be better getting the train....there are trains back at 23:10, 23:20 and 23:50. It's just me and my 2 daughters so want to try and remove as much stress as I can and make sure we are safe etc

We've been to events there and have simply used the dedicated parking. It's not cheap, but it is close to the venue, and has always felt safe to me when walking back. Bit of a queue to get out of the car park though!

Where do you need to get a train back too?

Ah thanks, I've left it too late to book the parking, all sold out

It's about 20 mins for the fastest train back, 30 mins for the slower ones

When I went a couple of weeks ago to see Ricky Gervais, I booked Brindleyplace QPark the night before. Plenty of spaces available. No issues getting off the car park at all. About 3 mins walk from arena.

Perfect! If you've not used it before, turn left out of the car park. You will walk past Spar and Boots. When you get to Caffè Nero, you will see Arena Walk by Sealife Centre. Follow that and you get to the Arena. There is a much longer way around but this route is the most direct. Cafés, Bars, Mega Lego Shop next to Arena if you have time to kill. Hope it goes well.

If it’s helpful for future reference, there is always a stream of people walking back to the train station from the arena, so the walk back to New Street (or the Mailbox car park which is what we tend to do) feels incredibly safe. Just don’t walk close to the canal edge if you’ve had a few. Grin
