What do you do when you're feeling down for no reason, nothing's happened (and thankful for this, don't feel tired or hungry, not hormone related but you just feel down in the dumps. What cheers you up?

-Message friends
-Look at baby photos of DS
-Read through old WhatsApp messages from the early days with my boyfriend
-Go for a sauna/steam room
-Tidy the house, light a nice candle, make tea and a cake and read/put on some comfort telly

Glass of wine, chocolate, bath, music, cbd, message friends, have a good sleep!

Daisy03 · 01/03/2025 22:16

A walk

BitOutOfPractice · 01/03/2025 22:18

Go out.

go to the gym.

ring my sister / a good friend.

PeppyLemonPombear · 01/03/2025 22:18

Depends what's made me feel low but ranges from venting to a trusted friend to getting out of the house with family to going for a solitary walk with a good podcast/audiobook.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 01/03/2025 22:18

@TheChosenTwo where will you walk at this time?

I would feel unsafe walking in the dark alone!

Walking (best is to go the garden centre and wander about amongst the plants)
Chocolate
Old episodes of Waterloo Road (when Rachel Mason is Headteacher)
Old episodes of The Good Life
Winning a prize (tho you have to enter loads of competitions for this to happen!)
Bach Sinfonia from BWV Cantata 156 on the oboe (amazing piece of music that always soothes me)

Eldermilleniallyogii · 01/03/2025 22:19

Thanks all.

Exercise is a good one too

I've been looking at holidays online while watching TV!

I do something creative.
Or spend time with one of the kids in our family
Or watch a good murder mystery
Or have a bacon sandwich in a hot bubble bath

travailtotravel · 01/03/2025 22:43

Honestly the walking. Good pace. Musicin or not. The alcohol and carbs are temporary fixes for me.

PollyCreo · 01/03/2025 23:33

Exercise. I run every morning before work - it lifts me up and elevates my mood for the whole day. I hate every fucking step and hate getting up at 6am but the results are worth it.

Notinkentucky · 02/03/2025 02:03

Honestly?
Shoot twixt wind and water
Nicotine
Mary Jane
Valium
Shoe shopping
pouting
Stamping my feet
Screeching only rarely

Sunshine
Friends
Walking
Wine

These things!

CoastalCalm · 02/03/2025 07:10

Some time with my closest friends

Notinkentucky · 02/03/2025 07:34

I go into my phone and look at pictures and videos of happier times, works like a charm. It reminds me that I was able to feel good before and that feeling comes from me and can be brought out once more. I allow myself to feel sad and mope about, it’s okay to grieve and be depressed, we all have good reasons why. Accepting that helps the mood pass.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 02/03/2025 08:08

I haven't been exercising as much recently so I need to get back to this as it does help my mood and mental health.

Sitting in the conservatory, with the dog, drinking wine and planning a holiday…or watching travel programmes.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 02/03/2025 08:12

A long drive with good music. Or a bike ride but that only works if it's nice.

A good gym session also used to help but I've lost my enthusiasm for that at the moment so need to get that back.

Also taking myself off social media helps.

arahiganay · 02/03/2025 08:26

Usually I don't feel like it but forcing myself to meet up with someone out of the house helps.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 02/03/2025 09:01

I’m feeling like this these last couple of days. I think it might be hormone related although it normally passes after my period arrives and this time it seemed to start after my period arrived on Friday!

So I’m taking some of the options on board, apart from the alcohol (intolerant) and walking/dancing (have ME).

When I’m having a housebound/can’t do much day, I binge watch something I love. Eithet Call the Midwife or something funny like Miranda.

Carlyhouse · 02/03/2025 09:13

Physical activity that makes you sweat.

It doesn't cheer you up but it allows your negative energy to burn out.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 02/03/2025 12:54

@HÆLTHEPAIN Mine is often hormone related too but didn't go when my period started!

I've never seen Miranda but I do like a bbc comedy.

Agree @Carlyhouse
