The other day I was washing out my Airfryer drawer when I noticed something that looked like a bit of food stuck in the hole underneath. Shining my phone torch up there I could see there was something. I tried to get it out with a skewer but I couldn’t reach it.

So I decided to take the handle off by unscrewing it from the inside of the drawer. The picture is what I found inside.

I think this is because it has a hole underneath but no hole on the top. When I put it in the dishwasher it was filling up with dirty water that had no way to escape. The water came out when it was turned the right way up but all the food was left stuck in there.

If you have this model then you might want to check yours.

ewwwww.

Kickbinit · 01/03/2025 14:01

Yeah I noticed mine does that too but not brave enough to take the handle off 😬

Maybe send that pic to Ninja?

Talonz · 01/03/2025 14:02

Not as interesting as the charcoaled mouse at the bottom of our toaster.

Well, it had been throwing up error codes and I had already contacted ninja who said tough luck, it’s out of warranty and we won’t tell you want the codes mean. I doubt they will care.

I have a double drawer Ninja and can't work out which hole you're referring to.

I don't want to open your picture!

If you turn the drawer upside down then there is a hole underneath right in the middle. I’ll dig out a picture.

This is the hole.

I have a Ninja Dual Zone - so maybe a different thing altogether, as I don't recognise that view.

But how does food get in the hole - the drawer where you put the food to cook doesn't have a hole?

The food gets in when it’s in the dishwasher I guess. The drawer is upside down. Mucky water gets in and the water can get out but the food can’t.

Are you allowed to put it in the dishwasher.

Yes. I checked. If you look how to wash it they show you on the video someone putting it in the dishwasher.

From their site ‘Washing up is easy thanks to ceramic-coated, non-stick dishwasher-safe 5.2L air frying basket.’

We had one of these as a student!

I ruined my first one by putting it in the dishwasher. All the Teflon coating came off. It's is absolutely not dishwasher safe! It was within warranty so Ninja replaced it and the new one hasn't been near the dishwasher since I got it (couple of years ago now). Just clean it with hot soapy water and a non scratch scouring pad.

They must have updated the drawers - mine has holes both sides, so water drains out.

But you should be scraping food off your crockery before it goes in the dishwasher - we're told there's no need to rinse items but you do need to at least wipe off big bits of food as the dishwasher filter doesn't capture everything!

I put mine in the dishwasher and so far so good - had it since September.

I would use too much water washing and rinsing two drawers so figure the dishwasher is best - we shall see.

Yes. I do scrape the plates etc but even so this happened. I’m not complaining, I just want to make other people aware.

So do you not need to was the main basket?

I rarely have to wash them @ChompandaGrazia
I obviously wash the silicone baskets after every use.
