Please talk to me about Disneyland Tokyo

My children are massive theme park fans. We have been humming and hawing about Disney Florida for a year or so but something is just stopping me from booking. I just think I'll hate the queues. We had thought about going next Easter to avoid summer hell but someone told me it's Spring Break and even busier than summer 😭. We can't do winter holidays because we all have Christmas commitments.
I also find Disney Florida so BIG and intimidating to organise.

I have really wanted to visit Japan for a long time and wondered if Tokyo Disney might be the solution. Has anyone been? What was it like? How long did you spend in the parks and did you combine it with visits elsewhere?

TIA

Sorry, can't answer the question directly. We are going to Tokyo soon and have been looking at DisneyLand or DisneySea, however looking at some of the many YouTube clips, the queues look horrendous. Might be worth looking through some of them, it was enough to put us off (Disney not Tokyo!)

Aw man. Why oh why? We all love rides but hate queues and hate the fast passes even more. I think it's just a shit lesson in life that some folk get to jump ahead because they can chuck money at it.

Disneysea is the best Disney park by far.

It's really good and a lot cheaper - 2 days in each park was enough but you can do longer if you'd like.

Check out videos on yt to see for yourself but I'd rather go to Tokyo than Florida!

It looks amazing. Did you go as a tourist or do you live there? If you went as a tourist where else did you visit? If you don't mind me asking?

Sadly as a tourist haha and just to add the ques are massive in every Disney park including Florida, it's not something you can escape unfortunately.

We were young and only went for 10 days but loved it, hoping to go back one day.

We did 4 days at the park and then explored Tokyo we went to like akihabara, Harajuju, Shinjuku etc the public transport is really good so you have freedom really.

They also have a universal park in Osaka but it's a bit far from Disney but the bullet train is about 2 hours or something.

You'll probably need to do research but it's probably the same or even cheaper than Florida

DFBguide and TDR explorer are good on YT.

I wouldn’t worry too much about queues. Disney Florida has genie plus app and you can pretty much walk onto or queue 10 mins or so for most rides if you put a little time into learning the app before you arrive. The best time to go is May, super quiet

JPC123 · 28/02/2025 18:46

I love Disneyland Tokyo and Disney Sea. We did a trip to Japan and visited Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka (where we visited Universal Studios Japan too.

MonkeyTennis34 · 28/02/2025 18:55

You can escape the queues, you just have to get a second mortgage to do so!

NellyBarney · 05/03/2025 22:41

Park tickets for Disney Tokyo are much cheaper than for Orlando/Paris, about 50%. So you could justify fast passes for your favourite rides. Midweek, especially Wednesday and Thursday, are best to avoid crowds, but even then, it's always busy. Average queuing time is about 45 min to 1 hrs for the big flagship rides, but only 10 min for the smaller rides, and on weekends it can takevup to 1.5 hrs to enter the park at opening time, according to the official app. You can see life waiting times on the app, and also book restaurants, shows etc on the app to reduce waiting times as much as possible.

Having been to both, the queues in Tokyo were much, much worse. But Tokyo overall is a better city to visit...universal in Osaka would get my vote, it was brilliant!

Florida is considerably quieter during the last 2 weeks of August once most of their children have gone back to school. We went last year and would definitely go back the same period for future trips. We did do some lightening lanes but also did regular queues too and with a bit of planning (which is part of the fun imo) you can avoid most of the worst queues.

How was the heat/weather then?

I think August is the month when Florida gets hit by storms/hurricanes.

Not been to Tokyo Disney but I would strongly advise against visiting Tokyo area in August the humidity is insane and weather is often grey. I lived for two years in Japan and barely saw the sun May-September it’s constantly grey and humid. Like wandering around in a hot soup (I am not joking). I’d look at any other time of year to go. Winter is great, it’s often sunny and never very cold. Spring and autumn often has great weather.

Yeah I'd heard that. If we go to Japan it would be during our Easter holidays so early April.
