I've just had a call from my GP surgery to ask if I want to start Mounjaro. I've said yes but have fell into a google spiral of what to eat and supplements to take.
I've got a number of health concerns, type 2 diabetic, HBP, partial gall bladder removal. Does any one have any advice on where to start with food. I want to get shopping in ready. I have already started slimming world last week so I should be in a good place to start medication.

You might get more replies if you pop this in the weight loss Injection threads. There's also loads of current support threads there with advice about prioritising protein and drinking more water to avoid constipation etc.

I believe mounjaro can cause more nausea as a side effect in patients who have had gall bladders removed, so it may be worth thinking about that (regarding timing of your injections etc) I'd like to think your GP or whoever is supporting you at your surgery would talk all of this through with you though.

Best of luck.

i thought it wasnt available on the NHS yet?

Tereseta · 28/02/2025 16:52

Thanks, I have an appointment next week so will talk through with them. It just came out of the blue today and I just said yes on the phone without asking any questions!

I believe it is available from March 2025 on nhs for certain conditions. (Googled today!)

I was told it couldn't be prescribed and have been on rybelsus semaglutide for around a year. Maybe it's different for different areas?

At UCLH it can be prescribed for diabetes type ? And there is another condition. I had extensive blood tests to see if I could get it in the NHS and the bad good news is that I didn't qualify

In my area Tier 3 has opened up and referrals are being accepted. Mine has and I'm currently waiting for an appointment 😊

I'm T2, with gallbladder removed and high cholesterol and was prescribed MJ in Sept last year.

It's been fabulous!

I'm completely off insulin and metformin and HbA1C has reduced to normal non-diabetic levels (5.2%).

I've lost 50lb and gone from size 22 to size 14, from obese to very nearly in healthy BMI, just 4lbs left till I hit that milestone, I feel so so much better.

I eat low carb, high protein, typically around 1200-1400 calories a day now, it was 1600-1800 a day when I started but you need to reduce as your size reduces as your body uses less calories to exist.

Typically that's things like egg for breakfast, casserole for lunch (I make a big batch and portion it out), meat and 2 veg for dinner. I don't really eat much in the way of snacks, but if I am peckish it will be cottage cheese, veg, babybel, Greek yoghurt, nuts, berries, things like that.
