Why don’t we have this in our supermarkets?

In USA, you can buy big bags of frozen grated potato that you use as a hash brown.
You just sprinkle it into a hot skillet or frying pan and cook.
So simple. No peeling, grating and squeezing out the moisture.
Yes, I know it’s lazy, but also simpler and time saving!

Creamed corn. I used to be able to buy it (Green Giant) but it's not in any supermarket I've visited lately.

Because America loves nothing better than having an excuse to use more plastic packaging.

They sell oranges, peeled and put in a plastic box ffs. If only there was some natural way of protecting oranges 🤔

Although I get grating potatoes and squeezing the moisture out is a total faff so not quite the same as peeling oranges!

This kind of thing can be helpful to disabled people and I also think that anything that helps people eat more healthily is to be welcomed.

I can’t say I’ve ever had a need for peeled grated potatoes, I think that’s why. Probably not enough demand.

Hmm but pricey for spuds but could be useful on busy days. Tbh I’ve never bothered grating and squeezing spuds but have bought hash browns a few times.

Try Chinese supermarkets if you have one near you, they usually have it

I buy the packs of 6 fresh rosti in Waitrose - quite reasonable and very nice too

If you have a South African shop near you, there's a good chance you can pick some up there.

dried papaya - it is a standard snack at the tills in many european supermarkets, but for some reason it is impossible to find in the UK - i've tried health food shops as well as big chains.

ginasevern · 28/02/2025 11:55

I guess people in the UK don't eat hash browns as often as the Americans. It's really only ever (generally) used as a breakfast item here and even then more likely if you're in a cafe or hotel. But perhaps that's just me?

I buy it from Iceland on a regular basis. Throw a steak in the air fryer basket with a liner, season it, then sprinkle the grated potato around the edges. It cooks in the juice coming out the steak and gets lovely and crispy.

You can get it in Tesco
