For me, it's :
Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose. (Me And Bobby McGee )

Take your passion and make it happen.

Turn a different corner and we never would have met
George Michael Different corner.

If the grass is very very wet....
... we'll do it perpendicular.

Two of the songs / lyrics quoted here were quotes my ex boyfriend left written for me after I asked him to move out (he also left the actual songs playing on repeat on my stereo)

They are Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley and There is a light that will never go out by The Smiths.

I was splitting up with him in the first place due to him being clingy and overly emotional so it did nowt to melt my stone cold heart I'm afraid.

Anyway, here's my vote:

"Before I'm pushing up daisies
Give me a long, heady summer
With arms open wide"

Sam Fender, Nostalgia's lie

We were just standing there, minding our own
We went on and on
We all smile, we all sing
The weak become heroes, then the stars align
We all sing, we all sing, sing

The Streets

@Daffiesmeanspring from the same song "There isn't a monopoly on common sense, on either side of the political fence'

user1471538275 · 01/03/2025 15:08

in fact 'we share the same biology, regardless of ideology' has a very true ring these days as well. (Russians, Sting)

One of the first singles I ever bought.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/03/2025 15:08

Oh, and also

"A thousand people I can be for you and you hate the fucking lot"

Lola Young, Messy.

In fact the whole song us just bloody genius.

I wished on them but they were only satellites

That's what I was going to say

Emmz1510 · 01/03/2025 16:17

Oh too many to name just one

’If you’re lost you can look and you will find me’. Cyndi Lauper.

‘I’m sure I heard his echo in my baby’s newborn tears’. Mike and the Mechanics.

’I know you have a lot of life in you yet, I know you have a lot of strength left’. Kate Bush.

’All along I believed I would find you, time has brought your heart to me, I have loved you for a thousand years’. Christina Peri.

I love Leonard Cohen's "There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in"

I remember I was at his amazing concert in the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin and he spoke about those words.

I’d love to know what he said.

saveforthat · 01/03/2025 16:24

Loads of George Michael's lyrics are perfect. I love all of praying for time.
Charity is a coat you wear, twice a year.

These lyrics from Little Mix's 'Power' are fricking awesome:

Motorbike, motorbike, motorbike, motorbike
Bike, bike, bike, bike
Bike, bike, bike, bike, bike, bike, whoop!

The depth and meaning. A really hard one to beat.

Wallawallakoala · 01/03/2025 16:43

the song is a bit ick but these words spoke to me : “you made my heart break but that made me who I am”

here’s to my ex little mix 😅

But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes

Eightdayz · 01/03/2025 17:01

More than one line but....

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play

And in the streets, the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
