I have an idea for a school fundraiser and I'm wondering if it might have traction or if it's doomed to failure:
I'd like to give each pupil the opportunity to paint a small (10cm x 10cm) wall tile, which would then be used to create a random mosaic on one or more of the external walls of the building for "prosperity" / celebrate the year 2025.
Kids would be invited to buy a tile and instead of the usual hour spent attending the annual fundraising"afternoon fête" (where kids spend money on disposable plastic toys or sweets, having glitter tattoos or playing "beat the goalie" etc) this time could instead be used for their art.
I'm thinking the Council's Facilities team could install the mosaic for us - if a parent plasterer/tiler volunteer is not forthcoming.
Do you think this is a good idea or do we just stick with the usual fête?
We are a low income area. How much would you pay for a tile?
(No calcs yet done on upfront tile costs, waterproof tile paint or adhesive/grout etc).
How could we include children who can't afford to pay anything?
What else might we need to consider (permission from the Council, risk assessment etc).
I don't yet want to share my idea with the school yet so I'm undertaking some MN research/market testing first for a sense check!
