What are your hobbies? Climb a mountain, go out for food with your family, do a long trek or bike ride, try a new evening class, buy yourself a present, stay in your pjs all day, go for a city break… anything that you feel is a treat really!

Nice hiking weekend

Hot air balloon ride

Trip to Europe - if you’re SE this is ridiculously quick on the train

Some kind of amazing unusual workshop eg glass blowing

Send everyone else out the house and have the day to yourself in peace (this is the phase I’m in 😆)

Afternoon tea

London for the day or another place of interest

Theatre

When my friend was 40 I took her out for a nice meal and we went to a 90s club night. We stayed in a hotel even though the club was in her home town (I had to travel to her). It was great!
We did think about going to see a band but nothing on we wanted to see or of afford.

I rented a hall and had speakers for music, bit of food, loads of booze. Invited everyone!

Well, I marked my 40th by committing to getting out of my crap relationship, which was the best gift I ever gave myself.

But for my 50th I had a fabulous few days by Lake Como, I booked a deluxe room with balcony looking out onto the lake & had a wonderful time.

In your OP you said you were happy to do things alone. Would you be happy to go to a gig or stage show alone, or out for a nice meal? We hardly drank anything, spent the whole night dancing instead!

For my 40th I dragged my family for a walk in the countryside then DH cooked dinner.

I went to New York with my DH for our 40ths, which was amazing.

But you could see a special show, hot air balloon, some kind of opera/ballet/adventure activity/special meal. My friend did a bucket list of 50 things she wanted to do in her 50th year, ranging from fairly mundane (lunch in a local pub she'd not eaten in before) to huge (climbing Everest). She didn't manage to do them all in that year (or indeed still, a few years on), but it gave a lovely focus, and she did different things with different family and friends.

if It was my birthday I’d probably just choose a really nice restaurant that’s usually out of our budget a lovely dinner would do me nicely!

or

instead of celebrating on your actual birthday you could go on a really nice family holiday in the summer, go a bit more expensive than you normally would and treat yourself by picking the destination and hotel without asking the rest of your family’s opinion.
