Does anyone know if parking companies allow a 10 minute grace period automatically?

not received ticket yet just wondering if one likely to be in post. I was in one of those car parks where they photo you coming in and out. I think I might have been 1 minute over the free stay period. Google tells me there is a 10 minute grace grace period which should be applied to all car parks. Does anyone know if this actually is the case? I wonder if I might get a ticket and have to appeal it

It depends whether the company enforcing it is part of the voluntary code, plus they don't have to agree to it until December 2026 even if they are. It's all a bit 😮

yes Popla have signed up to the 10 minute grace period so if eg you had free parking up to 1pm and you left 1.05pm then you're ok. If you left 1.11pm then expect a fine.

Purplturpl · 26/02/2025 13:22

It was free for 3 hours and I think I may have been 3.01

Then you're ok. On the off chance you get a fine challenge it - come back here and someone will help.

BPA’s Code of Practice (13.4) states that:
“You should allow the driver a reasonable period to leave the private car park
after the parking contract has ended, before you take enforcement action. If the
location is one where parking is normally permitted, the Grace Period at the end
of the parking period should be a minimum of 10 minutes.”

So you are ok.

How long did it take you to find an empty space to park in after you entered the car park?
I really object to being charged for the 5 minutes it takes circling the one way system all along every floor before I reach the 3rd floor where the only gaps are.

Purplturpl · 26/02/2025 13:31

To be fair it didn’t take long to find a space. Took a few mins to leave though as was queuing to get out
