Are breadmakers worth it?

I’ve tried a good few times to make different loaves in my oven but they never come out right, either too dense or doughy or burnt.
I really want to be able to make sourdough loaves for the family or gluten free loaves for intolerant DD.
if you’ve bought a breadmaker would you
recomment it and if so which brand/model please?

We've had our Panasonic for years and use it about three times a week. I also make at least one cake a week (gingerbread, fruit cake, lemon drizzle) in it - saves putting on the oven. It's worth having all the ingredients (apart from yeast which you will need to keep in the fridge) close to the machine so that making it is quick and easy.

Does the Panasonic breadmaker have a present of bread recipes or it can bake any recipe found online for example?

I was quite disappointed by our new bread maker (Panasonic bought at Xmas to avoid UHP foods). We use it about once a week and the fresh bread is great but hard to cut into neat slices. Then it goes crumbly and stale on day 2. It’s actually a pain and we’ve reluctantly gone back to buying sliced bread. Waste of money really.

Another vote for Panasonic. I love mine, had it about 10 years now and would replace it like for like. I use it all the time.

For ordinary breads try and buy Canadian wheat or at least a flour high in Gluten, it rises better.

We got a Panasonic, it's no frills really, used it every other day, or every few days for years. I actually like hand making bread, but my oven is gas and is inconsistent. My breadmaker recipe is consistent but the results are not! Still depends a little on the environmental factors. I prefer the oven bread TBH, but the convenience of the machine is good. Realised though after many years that bread doesn't really agree with me, so finally have given it all up.

Regarding the teflon bucket, just never put anything sharp in there, I rarely even had to clean it. Just watch out for the blade, you can forget it is in the bread and cut into it.

We have a Panasonic, we love it! Waitrose do a malted flour with grains in which is lovely. Never found it too dry. I sometimes make a loaf and slice and freeze, so that I don't run out. Much better than supermarket bread either nasties in.

My Panasonic is about 20 years old, still make bread in it two or three times a week. Can be from a recipe or those mixes from a supermarket.
