Do you bring people stuff back when you go on holiday?

My parents always did for family and so do I ( talking about brothers and sisters nieces and nephews). We've just done this and it has been exhausting. I don't want to do it anymore.

Ooh, this is an interesting thread. I’ve just got back from 2 weeks in Thailand and for the first time ever, didn’t buy any holiday gifts for the family. I wanted to, but it was just the same Chinese made sh*t in every shop. Nothing unique. Nothing authentic.
I did buy a couple of fridge magnets though (also made in China)😀

Only my 15 year old(usually a football jersey from the local team) and my grand daughter. Just back from Amsterdam and got her the cutest clog slippers. My 2 adult kids couldn't be bothered with gifts.

I'll often buy my DDs a t-shirt each but that's it. Otherwise, I just buy stuff that I want myself

I'm glad that sort of thing has been dying out now. I remember what a chore it always was when we went on holiday with my parents as children. They would also have a list as long as your arm of people who we had to send postcards to. I never saw the point in that personally and have never done it as an adult. Nor do I expect to receive them.

Sweets for my nieces. Small gift for our dd as she minds the dog. Nothing for my mam always feel she begrudges us our breaks so no. !!

Thimbles are the same!

Use to be able to get one in most tacky souvenir shops not anymore.

I can remember them being everywhere and traipsing round with a colleague after conf in Portugal. He bought about 4

I get a magnet for my mum & my sister. Something for my dad if I find anything and sweets or similar to take into the office.

I do for my two special friends. Just something small and relevant to where I’ve been. I gave them lavender soap from my visit to Provence last year.

@Tomatocutwithazigzagedge

In the 70s and 80s I think we had more generous luggage allowances on package holidays than we do these days.

People probably took fewer clothes away with them. For the 22 kg Jet2 allowance I can fill a huge case for 4 weeks away including sweatshirts and other warm clothing for chilly evenings (and some days) so I can't imagine people had more than that for a fortnight in the sun. There was probably more room on the plane for duty free purchases and things that wouldn't fit in your case as people didn't take cabin luggage.

I wonder where OP says she is buying clothes for her adult siblings if she goes to somewhere like Turkey where you can get a lot of copy branded stuff.

I get my sister something like a local preserve or sweets.

used to be a big thing when I was a kid. Mum would always get something for granny and grandad, her sister who lived by us, and people at work.
when my Pils were alive, we would buy a box of fudge, etc but now do not bother for anyone else.
sadly seems to have gone same way as postcards to be sent out to people. used to buy the cards in the morning then in the afternoon they would be spread on the table in the caravan and carefully choose which card for which person. after mum had written we used to stick the stamps on carefully then take them to a little bungalow which doubled as a shop/post office.
