Dh getting stressed at me that I've not booked this years holiday yet

Three resorts I've looked at are antibes, st tropez, cannes

Don't want to stay in nice as don't like pebble beaches

Used to visit Frejus & St Raphael, just along the coast from St Tropez, nearer to Nice. Sandy beach there. Lots of good quality caravan parks- well this was about 10 yrs ago. Frejus - nice town too - old town centre, with lots of lovely cafes, and very nice clean beaches at St Raphael.

Buses from Nice airport, and there are buses between the towns - not brilliant service but good enough. There's also trains but irregular times. Gets incredibly busy during the school holidays - the whole area not just Frejus & St R, and I mean really really busy. In fact that's one of the reasons we stopped going.

Not cheap at all. But a beautiful part of the World

It will be crazy hot. Try the Atlantic coast, St Gilles Croix de Vie area which will be nore bearable.

OP, you say "Dh getting stressed at me that I've not booked this years holiday yet."

To quote a phrase from my youth, what did his last slave die of?

In our house we discuss when we can go and where we'd like to go, and then one will research and book all the elements, or more usually we'll divvy tasks up and each do some of them.

When are you going? The dates will make a difference because of temperatures, as a PP has pointed out

We like the Occitaine and Languedoc areas - sandy beaches, nice cities and much cheaper than the Cote D'Azure. A lot of French people go to this areas for family holidays so there are traditional beach resorts like Saint Cyprien and fancier places like Couloire. There are also histoic and lively towns like Beziers, Sete, Montpelier and Perpignan that are an easy public transport ride from the beaches.

frozendaisy · 25/02/2025 07:52

@Chersfrozenface echo this

Can your "D"H not do some research and type in a 16digit number?

Fly to Bordeaux. Train down to Arcachon. Very easy,
great beaches.

100% this... loads nicer!

I live in this area and think it's a good option. Montpellier has direct flights from London and Beziers has flights from Manchester in the summer. Perpignan might also have some flights from the UK. It is much cheaper than the Cote d'azure and we have lovely long sandy beaches. Some are wild with just sand dunes and some are within seaside town with all the restaurants, bars etc... you could want. Public transport in the area is pretty good though if you want to go exploring some non beach areas (and there are some fantastic places to visit) you might need a car unless you stick to the bigger towns.

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/02/2025 07:59

I love that area, much more down to earth with great food and really friendly people. We had a great holiday in Beziers last summer - lots of walks along the canal, histoic buildings and an amazing wine festival and then we got the train 25 mins down to coast to Sete for a beach weekend

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/02/2025 08:01

We always get the train - longer than flying but more relaxing. We do live in London though, so getting to the Eurostar is easy.

JennyTals · 25/02/2025 08:58

I live the Eurostar but I do find it expensive, thanks for all the food for thought

tbh I don’t work as many hours as dh and I actually normally love to take charge of this
he will look for a bit then he gets fed up and then can’t be bothered

ideally going end of July

Really, really hot at the end of July and crazy busy in your suggested part of the Cote D'Azur. Definitely try to find somewhere less busy.

And much less hot!

Londongreywindows · 25/02/2025 13:49

We went here last year - https://provence-alpes-cotedazur.com/en/get-inspired/towns/var/sanary-sur-mer/beaches/

Got the train from Marseille and took about 45 minutes. It's a lovely area and lots of other lovely towns in reach by train.

Sourisblanche · 25/02/2025 14:07

We’ve been to the Montpelier area for the last two summers and love it but it is very hot and I like the heat! I think you do need a car there to access the beaches. The Montpelier tram doesn’t quite make it as far as the beach.

Also love Cannes but so hot and busy, my friend from Nice thinks the summers are much hotter now than in her childhood.

It depends on your heat tolerance I suppose. Dh and I are happy to go early to beach or very late on from 5pm but we have teens so need to work around their sleeping habits!

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/02/2025 14:09

You can get a local train from Montpelier to places like Sete and Agde for beaches.

Sourisblanche · 25/02/2025 14:35

I know but we always seem to have a lot of stuff with us and find the car easier. In general though I love taking the TGV through France.

kersh33 · 25/02/2025 19:03

There are shuttles or buses for a lot of the beaches or you can directly stay in some of the seaside towns like Palavas or La Grande Motte. But they are busy in July and I agree anywhere in the south of France will be hot!

FuglyBitch · 25/02/2025 19:06

Cannes. Fly to nice, get an Uber for 60 euros to Cannes
