Do you get a taxi to/from the airport or do you ask a friend/family for a lift ?

If stupid o'clock and/or airport is miles away then assuming taxi.

My friend will always ask me for a lift, regardless of what airport. I think this is a piss take and if you are going away then you need to factor in the cost of a taxi ?

We got a lift at not stupid o'clock and stayed at an airport hotel. We were going to go on the train but my dad offered.

CuteEasterBunny · 24/02/2025 10:02

Unless someone offers you should get a taxi and factor the cost into your holiday.

TeenLifeMum · 24/02/2025 10:03

We always get a taxi. This year, flights are normal times so we’re actually driving and parking I think.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 24/02/2025 10:04

Always get a taxi - even though the fare for an airport run is extortionate now!

Itisbetter · 24/02/2025 10:04

Drive and pay for parking

Seeline · 24/02/2025 10:04

IF it's a short break with little luggage and at sensible times, we go by train.
For proper holidays, we drive ourselves and pay for long term parking. So much easier especially for antisocial flight times or if your return flight is delayed.

RIPVPROG · 24/02/2025 10:05

We tend to just park at the airport
I have driven family to the airport at silly o'clock though and them for me, especially when I was younger and lived closer

CosyRoby · 24/02/2025 10:05

We just take the car and park at airport parking
It’s around £55 for a week and it’s just part of the holiday .
Id never ask anyone for a lift as it’s expensive now even to drop off you have to pay and it’s a nuisance for people to get in and out the barriers etc at the airport.

singletonatlarge · 24/02/2025 10:05

I get the bus or drive and park.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/02/2025 10:08

Take the car and pay for parking. This year our flight is very early in the morning so we’ve booked an airport hotel with onsite parking for the duration of the holiday

festivemouse · 24/02/2025 10:10

We drive and pay through the nose for parking 😂 I take too many suitcases for a lift!

I've given siblings a lift before at silly o'clock in the morning, but there's not many local transport options and I'd rather not have a solo traveller alone in a taxi at silly o'clock.

Xiaoxiong · 24/02/2025 10:11

I'd never ask for or accept a lift since the airports introduced drop-off charges.

Your friend is a CF and needs to take a taxi or public transport. It's a different thing if you offer a lift out of the goodness of your heart. I'm sure she's one of those people who says "well, the worst she can say is no" but it puts you in a really awkward position.

Badbadbunny · 24/02/2025 10:13

Our nearest airport is 90/120 minutes away so I'd never ask anyone for a lift as it would take too much of their time.

We've always driven and parked at the airport, either in the airport's own car park or stayed overnight in an airport hotel and parked in their car park.

We wouldn't trust the trains as Northern Rail are hopeless with cancellations etc and even if running, can't get us there in time for the morning rush of departures nor home again after the last arrivals of the day have landed!

furusato · 24/02/2025 10:14

I used to get cabs but now driving and parking is cheaper and more convenient. Eg just done a week in Spain. Gatwick parking was £57 vs return can fare of £120. Just need to make sure parking is pre booked- the same duration if I had not pre booked would have been £198.

Thefakeone · 24/02/2025 10:14

taxi/bus/drive seems to the norm. Just so fed up with my friend always asking for a lift to save herself taxi costs. She gives me petrol money. She always asks for a lift and it gets to the point where saying no all the time is then awkward. I have never once asked her for a lift anywhere, let alone the airport.

I'm the person on collection duties (rarely use airport myself), but we live less than 40 mins from Heathrow, so not an issue. Hour and a bit to Luton or Gatwick. Or Southampton. They could use train, but I guess I'm the easier option. Next door use taxis, A Lot. He travels for work most weeks. Wouldn't mind but they slam the car doors every time. Annoying at 3 am as it sets the whole road's dogs off one by one.

Dearg · 24/02/2025 10:15

I have a friend who always asks, regardless of time of flight. She has lots of stories as to why a lift is necessary - taxis are unreliable; the driver might tell someone who would break into her house; airport parking is really expensive.

All nonsense. And given it’s 2+ hour round trip for me , and she lives a lot closer to the airport, I feel quite comfortable saying no, with a little ‘ ha, know you’re joking’ laugh.

Well, surely you just say ‘No, get a taxi’? As many times as is necessary?

Chewbecca · 24/02/2025 10:18

Don't be daft. You just need to say No!

Thefakeone · 24/02/2025 10:18

we have Heathrow, Stanstead, and Luton all within fairly reasonable driving distances. Just so fed up of the expectation.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 24/02/2025 10:19

If you kept giving me a lift then I'd keep asking.

MissAnthr0pe · 24/02/2025 10:19

Airport taxi or uber. Underground for Eurostar.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 24/02/2025 10:19

We have used taxi, train, drive and park and even hire a car and drop off at the airport but no, we haven't asked for a lift from friends. During his late teens and early twenties, husband was expected to drive his parents to Southampton each year to board their cruise, but in payment, he got to use their car while they were away!

User19876536484 · 24/02/2025 10:20

Usually drive there and park but we sometimes stay overnight with family who live close to the airport (we don’t) and get a lift.

We have looked at taxis but they are a very expensive option.

TickingAlongNicely · 24/02/2025 10:21

The only time I've ever asked for a lift was when our car broke down on the way to the airport. Thankfully a neighbour quickly came to our aid (and looked after the kids car seats). Even offered to pick us up a week later of the car wasn't repaired by then

Asking for a lift is cheeky (except spouse etc)
