Alternative to yellow Metanium cream to hide redness

As one of the joys of perimenopause, the skin on my nose and chin has become unbearably itchy and red/inflamed for the past few months. After trying various products I found an almost empty tube of the yellow Metanium nappy rash cream which works wonders to hide the redness. I’ve now realised this has been discontinued. I don’t want to pay £30+ for rosacea concealing make up which is likely to irritate my skin. Does anyone know of a yellow cream that is similar to Metanium that I can use to hide the redness of my poor inflamed skin please?

Not yellow, but have you tried Sudocrem?
We use it as a cure all for almost everything in this house!

I’ve tried Sudocrem - it just makes my skin itchy and doesn’t hide the redness. It is the thick, yellow nature of the Metanium that masks the redness and that I want to reproduce.

I used to get itchy red skin in my teens so am a bit of an expert. Nothing will cure it until I grow out of it again in a few years (hopefully) so just want to hide it. I’ve tried - Sudocrem, Astral, Diprobase, various Boots No7, Bepanthem, Cetraben, E45, hydrocortisone, Haelen (sp?) steroid cream, Aveeno and probably more. The steroid cream works but is dangerous to use on the face.

It isn't yellow toned, but this is fantastic for hiding redness. Slightly cooling as well. You only need a small amount, this tiny pot lasted me a good few months (aware it is pricier than a tube of Metanium though)

Thank you - might give that a try.

I had a sweat rash recently on my neck - I’m going through peri and struggle with sweating in this area. As you can see from the picture (when it is approved), it was extremely red. It was also dry, thick and like a sandpaper texture. I tried hydrocortisone, Avène Cicalfate and DoubleBase. Then the pharmacist recommned a ‘nappy rash’ cream. So I tried Sudocrem (that stung) and then Bepanthen. After a few days it was all gone and so soft! I know yours is dry but it might be worth a go as it’s a barrier and also moisturising. The only thing is it didn’t conceal the redness so you might need something else for that and then use this at night and when at home.

I’m near Liverpool. The old style Metanium is like gold dust now.

I second this, it's really good. But it can feel heavy on the skin so use a really light touch.

But also any green based product (usually called a colour corrector) will do wonders for the redness.

Thank you! Bepanthan is the best I’ve found so far to soothe and moisturise- it just doesn’t cover the redness.

Oh no !
Why has it been discontinued?

Inmyownlittlecorner · 23/02/2025 23:18

I use Altruist from Amazon. It's about £10 & better than the £30 Rosalique I used to use. I've also used eborian which is more expensive but also very good. I got some Dr Jart at Christmas but I always go back to Altruist. I also have a Clarins clary sage face cream that smells lovely. I use it at night because it doesn't have any SPF. It's not cheap but a little goes a long way.
My Rosacea has calmed down a lot since the GP gave me a course of treatment.

Thanks everyone - lots of alternatives to explore.

Altruist anti redness and pigmentation cream. It’s also spf 50

excellent stuff.

Pimecrolimus cream has been recommended to me as an alternative to steroid cream (for eczema). You'd need to be prescribed it. One brand name is Eladel (sp?)

I’m reluctant to use a high SPF cream as I’d literally only be using it on the tip of my nose and chin and wouldn’t want those areas to then be a different skin shade to the rest of my face 😀
