Tesla owners

I would never buy a Tesla now - literally over my dead body. I think Musk is dangerous and delusional and don't want to be associated with him in any way. I've got a few friends that have Tesla's and I know that they feel a bit conflicted. I guess they are kind of stuck with them for now.

If you've got one do you feel bad driving it and feel that people might be judging you now or do you dissociate the brand from Musk himself? I not a journo, just interest given how popular they are and a bit 🤔that people think it's okay to buy one now given they can make a choice that isn't contributing to Musks wealth and power.

I completely agree

We live abroad where there are loads of them

I'd rather walk

MJBear · 23/02/2025 02:08

I love my tesla.

MJBear · 23/02/2025 02:09

But I don't buy any products owned by nestle (well - if I know that is)

@alexisccd I suspect these two people were not Musks’s admirers…

There was an article in Forbes that Tesla garages in the US were vandalized as anti-Musk protests. It means that owning a Tesla might come with a higher risk of vandalism, resulting in higher insurance premiums (and hassle of repairs) This might detract buyers from Tesla further and even reselling a used car might become harder.
As a result Tesla will have a might higher depreciation cost. It’s a domino effect.

People would be pretty daft to try and vandalise a Tesla with sentry picking up everything.

ploppydoppy · 23/02/2025 07:25

I have seen a few Teslas wirh stickers that say “we bought this before we knew” and “like the car, hate the CEO”. They must be getting the stickers somewhere. Etsy maybe.

amazon sell thsm

ploppydoppy · 23/02/2025 07:26

Bestseller apparently! 😆

Snoken · 23/02/2025 07:28

I would definitely not buy a Tesla. There isn't the tiniest fibre of me that would knowingly support a nazi who has weasled his way into power on the political scene. I don't like the argument that one person buying a car is neither here nor there, of course it is. More people need to boycott this man, not support him because his product fits in with their middle-class lifestyle. There are plenty of other EV's out there.

I live in Sweden and recent studies here show that 63% of the population are against Tesla, I think that number will only go up. Two of my friends who have had their Tesla's since before it became known he's a Nazi are currently trying to sell their cars before they become even more devalued.

Youcanttakeanelephantonthebus · 23/02/2025 07:34

He's the current CEO. I suspect he will get bored and move on in the next year or so.

Snoken · 23/02/2025 07:36

He's the largest indivdual shareholder, not just a current CEO.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 23/02/2025 07:39

I wouldn't buy one. He's already put me off the brand and I'd be worried how much further he's going to go and, whether or not that would impact longer term value (or safety).

But I don't judge others with them and afaic I can buy or not buy whatever brand I like first whatever reason I like.

I’m looking at getting one through my workplace electric car scheme, got to drive one recently and they’re great. I just want a car that I like, me boycotting him will make no difference to his wealth, influence or power.

But it literally will, if the value of Tesla tanks it will have a big impact on his net worth. I think a lot of people are just justifying things to themselves, so they can buy or continue to drive a Tesla. It would be simpler to just admit that you don't care about what he's doing or that he's a malignant man and that you're happy to continue to line his pockets.

And the VW comparison is not the same, it's not the 1940s. The appropriate comparison would be to buy a VW in the 1930s or 1940s, not in the 21st century.

Huckyfell · 23/02/2025 07:54

I enjoy driving, love cars, designs, noise, heritage. I detest teslas as they are bland and ugly and very boring. Not keen on musk but would buy his car if the design was good. I hate them. Whiiiiiine...... 😫

Snoken · 23/02/2025 07:56

@Mayfly3 Exactly! Tesla lost 15 billion dollars in brand value during 2024, it's the car brand that has lost the most out of all of them. 2025 is most likely going to be even worse for them unless they can find a way to get rid of the nazi.

It also loses more value than other cars on the second hand market so if you buy a brand new Tesla you lose on average just over £500/month in value every month you own it. Other cars also lose value of course but not as much as Tesla's.

I can't see why anyone would buy one an lose so much money on it on top of supporting a nazi. Leasing I guess is a different matter, then it's just a moral conscious thing.

Fair point.

Again, there is a different level of evil. All brands listed here make profit mostly in line with existing laws and whilst possibly socially unfair, none of them inflict even remotely similar level of pain as Musk. He's changing the entire world order now buying two dictators, trump and putin. So every little helps in trying to limit his profit.
And I do judge people having Teslas now. Somehow excusable if bought several years ago, but to buy it now one needs to have a really questionable consciousness.

looks, I am in no way a supporter or a fan of Musk, but I do also feel that there are people equally as bad if not more behind the scenes that control various political scenarios and feed into consumerism. Musk is somewhat a celebrity, so his actions are a lot more pronounced and publicised, however the things he is doing or not illegal either, but socially and morally unfair.

OddBoots · 23/02/2025 08:09

We bought our EV a year ago, we didn't get a Tesla because we didn't trust Musk not to just decide to brick them if he got in a strop with the UK. He seems to have no issue with doing the unthinkable and throwing his toys out of the pram.

But what are you saying? That people shouldn't have any issues supporting Musk because there are other people just as bad who we don't know about? Why is it ever OK supporting a known nazi?

No not at all. It’s more a point of most products and brands that we consume today are somewhat linked, directly or indirectly to line the pockets of awful people. Musk is just in the spotlight.

Musk is his brand though in the way that many celebs are. And cars in particular rely on brand power & sell a lifestyle to make consumers buy into that. It's not the same as buying a tin of beans.

uglyjessie · 23/02/2025 08:23

No i would not buy that man's product

Heatherbell1978 · 23/02/2025 08:23

Tesla sales have funded Trumps rise to power. I have no interest in funding right wing extremism even if they're good cars. As a society we really should make better decisions about where we spend our money.

uglyjessie · 23/02/2025 08:23

We should all be a bit more mindful about how we purchase

Especially big ticket items like an EV

But so what? What was the point of the comment? Was it to say don't buy anything from anyone because you don't know what their values are or was it supporting Musk isn't so bad because other people are bad too?

We all know that there are bad people out there, but why does that in any way excuse people supporting Musk?

Farellyo · 23/02/2025 08:26

I wouldn't judge others for having one as I truly don't give a shit what other people drive, but I wouldn't personally buy one. To be honest the only time I've heard anyone judge someone about their choice of car is those that have huge country wagons in the middle of the city.

Luddite26 · 23/02/2025 08:26

Tesla make super sleek power banks for solar panels too. It goes beyond cars.
