Tips to help me save?

I’m currently claiming disability benefits (ESA) and won’t be able to work for the foreseeable future. My partner works from home full time. I’m trying to save for an Emergency Fund for us, for obvious reasons.

We’re living very much to the wire and after paying our mortgage and bills, we haven’t got much leftover for food and cleaning products etc.

I’ve sold some of my belongings via FB Marketplace (just small stuff that that we no longer wanted) and I’ve managed to save £100 into my Emergency Fund from doing this.

It seems impossible to save anymore money, but I’d appreciate any tips, which may help please!

Have you looked at when your insurances are expiring so you can look for cheaper deals, gone through your direct debits to check you’re only paying out what you need to. Make sure you eat up the food in your fridge/freezer before you buy more. Collect points from shops like Tesco/Boots etc. Cooking from scratch rather than buying jars, cooking extra and freezing it. Turn the heating and hot water temp down as much as you can.

What’s your husbands full time hours? How does your disability limit what you can do in the home?

What I’m gettting at here is that I think it’ll be quite hard to shave off money to save. It’s easier to earn more. If your dh is working a 40 hour week then for 6 months pick up an evening and weekend job for 20 hours per week. Roughly £200 extra per week. Do that for 6 months and you’d have the best part of £5k saved up.
