Potato ricer recommendations please

A bit of arthritis and a bit of RSI and my hands/wrists aren't what they were so I'm switching from masher to ricer. None of them are cheap so I'm looking for recommendations please.
Rectangular or round? Solid or changeable plates? Favourite brand? Thanks very much.

I bought mine from Lidl but it requires squeezing so I'm not sure how it'll be any better than a masher

If it's just for potatoes then you could just put them in a blender or use a hand blender

If you use proper “floury” mashing potatoes you can just chuck them in a kitchen aide (other stand mixers are available) with warm milk and butter and a paddle and mix a couple of mins max. Potato ricers require quite a lot of squeezing.

if you don’t have them I really recommend oxo choppers and peelers.

Get a Masha (link above).

OXO do a ricer that sits across the pan, which looks good. You could think about a mouli (then you turn a handle round and round horizontally and the food is pressed through a sieve.

Alternatively Sainsbury’s frozen mash is excellent

Sinkingfeeling952 · 20/02/2025 02:31

We have the oxo one and it’s great. It’s not hard to squeeze at all especially if you boil the potatoes to be very soft

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 20/02/2025 02:32

I just buy mash. Ricers are not easy.

ODFOx · 20/02/2025 23:42

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to peel and cook as usual so can spoon them into the ricer easily. I've added the OXO one to my Amazon basket. Thanks

@ODFOx I cannot recommend the Joseph Joseph Helix Ricer enough. Have always used ricers and tried several over the last 20 years to find one that wasn't such hard work to push the potato through. No luck until I happened upon this one. Its helix design (which makes it different to other ricers) means you simply don't have to push hard at all. Easy and superb results. I love mine!
