*Entirely* voice controlled phone

Hello! Can anyone tell me of a (not too expensive) simple phone that would be able to be controlled to make calls wholly by voice by someone with no mobility? They have a proper eye motion controlled setup during the day but are worried about night, and are sometimes alone in the morning before their carers arrive to get them up and setup with the computer and want to be able to make calls.

A lot of the assistive tech phones I’ve seen rely on pressing a single button to activate voice control, or being unlocked first, neither of which they could do.

I think potentially an iPhone could do it but the cheapest model is still very expensive and we don’t need any features other than calling.

If they're at home, can they use an Alexa or similar? I don't have one but I think you can make calls through them using voice commands.

Yes. Good solution (needs setting up, obvs).

With Android phones, you can tell Hey Google to call someone from your contacts. You can leave the 'assistant' always on. I assume Siri can do the same with Apple.

These are really helpful thank you. I’ve never used an Alexa so didn’t realise it could do this

I'd just you look into environmental controls via the NHS, they can do all sorts, including ways to operate phones from bed.

Thanks this is really helpful. The initial list of options was provided by the doctor, but had just come from a Googled list.
On closer inspection Alexa can only call other Alexa enabled devices and cannot make emergency calls so wouldn’t be suitable.

I’ll follow up again - is the GP the best route in do you think? The daytime eye tracking tech setup is NHS provided so maybe there is scope to make a request from whoever organised that. We absolutely don’t mind paying to the extent we can but it just doesn’t seem there’s an obvious solution available commercially

An Apple HomePod can make calls so long as you have an iPhone. A cheap basic version of an iPhone would be required to connect to HomePod but then it’s all go from there

I'm fairly sure that Google Home (the Alexa equivalent from Google ) can make phone calls so that may also be worth a look. Best of luck.

I think that it varies from place to place who does it, so my local one is like this: https://www.ouh.nhs.uk/oce/services/specialist-disability-service/ Might be worth asking your GP if they can refer, but if they don't know about it whoever provided the day time system might be worth asking for advice?

You can definitely make calls with Alexa to non-Alexa devices. It’s ages since I linked my mobile number and address book to Alexa so I can’t remember exactly how, but it wasn’t difficult.
