Any recommendations, not specific on genre. I feel the urge for something lovely and analogue to arrive in the post each month!

I always buy British vogue - I've got a little collection and I feel very carrie Bradshaw when reading them

I got Red and Good Housekeeping (which doesn't seem to be about housekeeping, more books, travel, food, fashion, inspirational women, that sort of thing) on a £1 an issue offer about a year ago. Was OK and easy enough to cancel before the price went up.

I also pick up Stylist Magazine when I see it - it's free and available at the entrances to some supermarkets, railway stations etc, or you can pay to have it posted to you and access online content. It's not a glossy, more a small newspaper, but it's not stuffed full of adds and there can be some interesting articles.

Or if you have a particular interest like travel, hiking, food, the magazines that fit that theme are nice - I like the Sunday Times Travel magazine.

I like delicious! Always gives me new ideas for things to cook.

I love magazines - across all genres. I've been reading Good Housekeeping for about 40 years and Delicious for maybe 20 but my favourites are Food & Travel and Gardens Illustrated. Also, if you are at all interested in textiles and embroidery, Selvedge is worth a look.

username299 · 19/02/2025 15:13

New Yorker

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/02/2025 15:19

If I buy a magazine, it's likely to be Good Housekeeping.

mondaytosunday · 19/02/2025 15:21

Well it does rather depend on your unieses! I mean if you're not in to gardening no point recommending one of those.
I like House Beautiful and House and Garden. I also get London Magazine which I love, but is not really going to interest you if you live in, say, Liverpool.
Country Life is iconic.

Thanks for the suggestions! I love reading, interiors, culture, art etc.

@username299 does the new Yorker have a political skew?

My friend has a cupboard with all the editions of her favourite magazines filed in order. Something about it makes me strangely envious!

It doesn't support a party but would be described as liberal.

The New Yorker is renowned for its in-depth coverage of politics, international affairs, literature, film, music, television, science, medicine, technology, and more.

You can get the digital version for a dollar a week for four weeks and see what you think.

Woman and Home is my main one now
I still occasionally buy Red when i get a clubcard voucher
Does anyone on here know why so few copies of the latter seem to be in the shops these days?

I used to hoard magazines too. Now I read them via the library app, all for free and the piles are no longer cluttering up the house.

OrangeCushioning · 21/02/2025 21:11

For interiors, I like The English Home and House and Garden.

For other things, Private Eye, LRB, The Fence.

There's a subscription called Stack who send you different (high quality, independent) ones each month, if you're feeling very open minded!

Oh that sounds interesting

UtterlyOtterly · 22/02/2025 14:24

If you love reading, consider Slightly Foxed. It is quarterly, not monthly but is beautifully printed. It is mainly essays about books and authors, there are always several which make me add titles to my list of books to read.

LollyWillow · 22/02/2025 18:37

I love Slightly Foxed too. I have also recently started reading The Idler and am enjoying it so far.

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/02/2025 19:09

Thanks for the thread, I've been wondering the same thing having long outgrown Cosmo but not yet being ready for My Weekly! I'd assumed Good Housekeeping wouldn't be a good fit for me in my one bedroom flat with no room to entertain (and £6 an issue puts me off!) but off the back of a reply upthread I've just taken up a 3 for £3 offer on both GH and Red 🙂
