What do you wish had never been invented?

For me it’s things like guns/bombs/auto rifles and stuff like that.

Killing someone with a sword or knife is one thing (back in ancient times). You actually had to get your hands dirty and it could make people reconsider but guns? One pull of a trigger and you can kill many in a blink of an eye without thinking twice

Smart phones. Incredibly destructive to society.

Without guns and bombs we’d still be hacking people to death and trampling them with horses on battlefields or using bow and arrow.
Humans will never stop killing each other, it’s in our dna.
I’d erase religion, as it’s a major cause of historical conflict along with land grabs.

As for Nuclear weapons, the threat of them has saved far more lives than were caused by Hiroshima / Nagasaki.
Without MAD we’d be speaking Russian or Chinese by now.

Ear stretcher things - probably a name for them but what we they are they are utterly repulsive Ear gauges. Or just ear stretchers. I like them.

I wish Teams had never been invented. It’s just so self important, flashing away in the corner of your screen, demanding you drop everything and respond to whoever thinks their query is too urgent to be an email.

And management chains. Why do there need to be soooo many managers?

Social media I am on the fence - originally it was a great tool for people who are not comfortable socially in real life. And we were all using it to keep in touch with friends and family, it was great!

The issue is the competitiveness and bragging that is now going on, but what if social media was limited to 100 followers for ex? Wouldn’t it go back to how it was at the beginning, no influencers etc, just people posting updates for people they know.

I think the Internet was, on balance, just about more positive than negative. But I wish it hadn't evolved further than its early days of just web pages for information, email, print outs etc. I sincerely wish there had never been social media or smart phones, we were so much better off. I spent a large chunk ot last year leaving mine in a drawer and barely using it and life was so much better. I have since relapsed.

Mine would be credit cards, or even any credit except for mortgage or car. I reckon prices would go down if people were spending only within their means, and if we had to save before big purchases we might think twice before buying -> less fast fashion, buying useless things etc

Definitely this. We're going backwards. Too many kids growing up unable to cope with life because of instant, constant information. I'm really glad I was young without it.

Skibidi toilet. Lighthearted in comparison to some of the other things on this thread but if I have to hear it again this half term I'm turning the WiFi off.

Religious self-righteousness. It's been the root cause of so many wars, death and destruction over so many centuries.

Unsure of how to summaries this (maybe capitalism) but the feeling that management accountants run everything.

Like companies know the cost of everything but the value of nothing???
