A lentil/chickpea veg curry plus rice left for an hour in the oven on a keep warm setting?

OP posts:
memyselfi · 18/02/2025 15:15

Absolutely

InfoSecInTheCity · 18/02/2025 15:15

Yes.

Wouldn't you?

Fifiworks · 18/02/2025 15:16

Wouldn’t think twice about it. Buffet food is kept warm longer than that.

Curry definitely, not sure about rice being kept warm like that though. Although they obv do this at buffets etc.

TimeForSprings · 18/02/2025 15:33

So long as it hadn't dried out, or burnt to a crisp, absolutely.

Toemoe · 18/02/2025 15:38

Yes happily, I eat rice several times a week that’s just been left on the keep warm function of my rice cooker

MonetWaterlilies · 18/02/2025 15:39

Yes and yum!

Sajacas · 18/02/2025 16:01

Yes.
Why not?

TheLionandAlbert · 18/02/2025 16:06

Yes. Why not?

Dampfnudeln · 18/02/2025 16:08

Sounds lovely, it’s a yes from me.

Sebsaloysius · 18/02/2025 16:31

Why on earth not?

My late DMIL would have her massive rice cooker on permanently all week! My DH doesn't appear to be any the worse for it!

Amaranthasweetandfair · 18/02/2025 16:36

I have no idea why you'd even ask this question?

UselessMumAlert · 18/02/2025 18:59

I was always taught you shouldn't leave rice standing around, but not sure if this counts as standing around.

BeaAndBen · 18/02/2025 19:04

Absolutely! It sounds great.

SueSheeMee · 18/02/2025 19:07

I'm just about to dish up a Cajun rice dish I've made from rice cooked this morning and stored in the fridge (ideal for fried rice) with chicken three days out of date. So I think you can guess my response...

Arrggghhhhhh · 18/02/2025 19:08

Not unless I wanted to spend my evening farting, no.

UselessMumAlert · 18/02/2025 19:18

See, this I would also do because it was cooled immediately after cooking which I was taught was ok as long as it was re-heated thoroughly. It's the keeping it warm/hot which I'm unsure about and it's not for me, it's for my pfb, so I need to be doubly sure

Sometimes I wonder how I'm still alive, how did it come about that people were always telling you things about rice?

Quinlan · 18/02/2025 19:25

British people are so fucking weird about rice

InTheRainOnATrain · 18/02/2025 19:27

You can keep your own freshly cooked rice warm and even reheat it once if you like! The issue is, I believe, that the takeaway has already done that (they’re not cooking rice fresh for each and every order) and you shouldn’t reheat it AGAIN because multiple reheats is what increases your risk of food poisoning.

OP your dinner sounds lovely, I’d definitely eat it so I hope you do too and that you enjoy it!

Changingplace · 18/02/2025 19:38

Yeah wouldn’t occur to me not to, totally fine.

I always thought it was the reheating of rice that was advised against.

I do it anyway and would absolutely eat that meal.

Literally this.

I am British, who has married into a rice heavy culture, but before I was married I thought everyone was so precious about reheating rice but now I just think it's a bit of a national obsession.
