Daughter’s throat- opinions please

Have posted on health boards, thought I’d try here in hopes of some response…

My daughters 3 and suffers from recurring tonsillitis, usually got told it was viral but she would only get worse so would end up back on antibiotics, after so long the doctor agreed to refer her to ENT, we are currently awaiting an appointment. Since the beginning of December she’s been ill with it the majority of the time, she’ll get a bit better for a week then back to crying from pain, vomiting etc. Two weeks ago she was put on a 10 day course of antibiotics again but told only to take them if she didn’t improve, she was in so much pain and with her temperature continuing I gave her them, she improved a little for a week however the last few days she’s in agony again, constantly coughing because her throat is irritating her and telling me how poorly her throat is. I’ve had a look at it and one tonsil seems much more swollen than the other to me but I’m also concerned about the blisters she’s got on the back of her throat, she’s had a few for a while but there’s so many now. Took her to the doctors again today and after only looking at her throat for a few seconds got told all looks ok not infected and if anything probably a virus, I had to mention the fact she suffers with recurring tonsillitis as gp was unaware. I may be over reacting but seeing her in so much pain is upsetting me now and just feel like compared to the child she usually is she’s not right at all. Her breathing is much louder than usual but told part of “virus”. I’ve attached pictures of her throat at the moment in hopes I can get some opinions and advice, thank you x

When I was a child I had recurrent tonsillitis and ended up nearly having my throat close over from quinsy. When the surgeon took my tonsils out he said I had a lot of scar tissue and it was lucky I was having them out then as it could have impaired my breathing. Look up quinsy, maybe this is an issue for your DD. Either way I'd try to see a different GP. https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/conditions/quinsy#:~:text=Signs%20and%20symptoms,-Symptoms%20of%20quinsy&text=a%20severe%20and%20quickly%20worsening,pain%20when%20swallowing

Thanks for the reply. Yes I’ve heard of quinsy and this is my worry if things continue this way. Pictures should be there now.

Your DD's throat infection might be situated behind her tonsils. Here is how it was in our family: It would not always "look" infected and if they did a strep test, it could come back negative. But the antibiotics never quite cleared it up, so it kept coming back.

That was how my DD was. When she got her tonsils out, the ENT surgeon said she had a huge pocket of infection/pus behind her very large tonsils. We went through so much over the years until they finally decided they needed to come out. Her breath would just reek from what we now know was the infection behind her tonsils.

This does sound very similar to what we’re going through, no amount of antibiotics seems to be clearing it up. Looking at her throat today there’s even more blisters but all seem to be on the back of the throat and some large ones behind the tonsils.
