Motorbility or personal loan

Hi. I’ve been awarded high rate mobility. My current car is knackered, probably get 3-4k trade in. Insurance costs usually £750/year and it always needs work around MOT.

I need an automatic, SUV type so it’s higher/easier to get in with heated seats and steering wheel as the cold aggravates my conditions. I am not too bothered about fuel type but if electric then would prefer long a long range.

i was going to test drive motability vehicles but if my award is stopped when it’s reviewed in 3 years I’ll have no car. Would I be best to get a loan and use the £75 week to pay for that so at least the car is mine? I don’t want pcp with balloon payments and limits on mileage. How did everyone else decide what to do?

Are motability cars new or newly new? Thanks.

Motability cars are brand new.

We have had four now and about to start looking for the next one. On the website you can filter by advance payment / SUV / fuel type etc.

The benefit for us is - paid for insurance, servicing including tyres included, breakdown cover included, good choice of cars.

Thanks @hopeishere. I had a Quick Look on the motability website and only 7 cars were showing when I ticked the brand new filter.

do the garages offer additional vehicles or is everything available on that motability site?

There's 100s on the website when I look! Are you going through a specific garage?

I think the new cars filter is cars new to the scheme not actual new cars. I've always had a brand new car every time.

There’s 7 cars showing as automatics that are new cars.

That makes sense @hopeishere if they are all new and those few models are just new to the scheme.

im not needing a brand new car anyway - ive never had one. I was just wondering.

if they are all new will I get a 25 plate then wait to order from March?

seems to be a good deal taking into account depreciation, servicing, tyres, insurance and breakdown. If I got an electric I would probably save on fuel costs too.

i saw something about free charging points and a first vehicle contribution - are they still offering those this year?

How long do we usually need to wait for? I will speak to some dealers, I’m just trying to get an idea. Thank you.

It will be a brand new car no matter what you go for. I don't know about the 25 plate as we don't have that system in NI.

I don't know about the charging point but you do get some money for signing on to the scheme and I think k you get £250 if your car is in good condition when you return it at the end of the three years.

When I search I get 34 options for an automatic SUV. You need to decide if you want to make an advance payment - so for some cars there is an additional cost but you can filter for £0.
