Phone company increasing price monthly

I need a new company recommendation. I have been with ee for about 6 or 7 years and was paying £30 a month for unlimited data, calls and texts. I have had this instead of home WiFi. A year ago they told me I was now getting it all for £10 a month as I have been with them for so long which lasted a few months. They have now told me that after a change of terms, after 30 days the price will be increasing monthly with no mention of it stopping and if I don’t cancel it will lock me into a contract.
It’s not a scam, it was text to me from their number. they worded it differently but I’m just telling you what they essentially said. I would much rather swap phone companies or deals but not sure what to go for

Are you sure it's not a scam? Scammers can make their number look like a different number.

Don't click on anything in the text, and phone the company from a verified / safe number.

Anyway, apart from all that, look at giffgaff - they use O2s network, and their sim only offerings are really cheap. I think I pay £8 per month. They also tell you if they think you should be on a cheaper deal.

Go to an ee shop and speak to them.

This could be a scam.

I very nearly fell for a scam where text messages appeared to come from my bank - they looked identical.

Well, if they lock you into a new contract then they can’t increase it to a new price every month. So which is it? They’re doing some weird rolling monthly deal which goes up every single money or they’re locking you into a new contract with a set price?

The top says -EE-. If I scroll I can see the rest of the genuine texts they’ve sent me over the last few years. It’s not a new chat.
it just says the price is increasing each month and I have 30 days of recieving the text to cancel my number or the new terms will apply to me

Sounds very odd.

Can you post a screenshot of the message? Usually they'll include a link to the T&C's.

They did, at the end they link to their website where I can read about the changes including FAQS and understanding my bill

Ok, so what do the terms and conditions/FAQ say about an increase every month?

That's exactly what the bank scam I had looked like.

Header said "Bank Name"
Message looked to come from the same number as previous texts from the bank.
Message dropped neatly into thread of earlier messages.
Was not real!

I don't know how it was done, but it was.

Although the www does say that EE are putting most of their rates up by £1.50 - £4 a month from 31 March m.

EE prices are increasing on 31 March 2025 by 6.4% on average, which is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate of inflation. This increase applies to most EE products and services.

How will prices increase?

Mobile SIM Only and airtime plans: Increasing by £1.50 per month
Handset plans: Increasing by £4 per month
Connected devices: Increasing by £1.50 per month
Broadband plans: Increasing by £3 per month
How is the price increase calculated?

•	The price increase is based on the December CPI rate published in January
•	The CPI rate for December 2024 was 2.5%
•	This means that the majority of EE customers will see a price increase of 6.4%

What can I do?

•	You might be able to negotiate a better deal with EE
•	Customers usually have more success when re-contracting compared to doing it in the middle of their contract
•	You can discuss your options with EE's customer services team

Are you misreading it. The prices are increasing every month but it is 1 increase that will happen so the suggested price I saw was increasing from £10 to 10.64. Can you post the actual wording?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/02/2025 19:00

That is the actual wording. I copied and pasted it rather than putting up a screen shot, because images have to wait to be approved.

BearyNiceEars · 17/02/2025 19:04

Do you just need a sim-only plan? I pay £12 per month for mine on a rolling basis which pretty much shakes out as unlimited everything. My plan is with one of the smaller MVNO operators of the GiffGaff/Lebara/Voxi variety. Have a look into them, you can save loads.
