Holiday suggestions with 4yo only

Hello! Does anyone have any holiday suggestions for 5ish days in early March for DH and I and our 4yo only? She is unfortunately allergic to the sun which rules out a lot of places I would have chosen!

Ideally we'd like somewhere with flights from Gatwick (or in the UK), interesting museums or things to do, and good food. We did Seville last year and loved that but it was a bit too sunny for DD.

An added bonus would be somewhere where she could make friends with other kids, but I don't think she'd go into a kids club without us which makes things tricky.

Budget? Long or short haul?

As crazy as it sounds NYC is great for kids. Loads to do and as a high city even when sunny theres lots of shade. March isn't likely to be crazy warm. Flight time is 8 ish hours and you can get daytime flights back so jet lags not as bad.

Thanks for the suggestion. Budget - ideally not more than £2k and I think I'd prefer short haul.

I love NYC but I'm originally American and very upset about what's happening there, so I'd rather not visit at the moment.

But open to any other suggestions!

Germany? Very family friendly, Berlin is easy to get to and lots of things to do.

Netherlands? Could do Efteling, Amsterdam and Rotterdam

I came to suggest the Netherlands. Look up eurocamps. You'd need to drive. Most are open this time of year. Sometimes, it's cheaper to book directly with the sites. I've heard the centre parcs in Europe are quite good in Belgium and the Netherlands.

MissAmbrosia · 16/02/2025 19:32

You want to fly? I would also recommend European CPs and also Landal.com. Our favourite was always Hoog Vaals when dd was little - close to Maastricht, Valkenburg and the Drielandenpunkt where you can stand in 3 countries at the same time. Also have some lovely places along the Moselle valley. Flying though....Amsterdam or Rotterdam - as per PP is a good bet. Lots to do and see and easy to get about to other towns like Leiden, Utrecht and Delft. Too early for the tulips though. Or fly to Brussels and get train/tram to De Haan CP. Or Frankfurt for the Rhein valley.

What about Belgium?

MumChp · 16/02/2025 19:36

Denmark, Norway, Sweden or Germany.

Germany and specifically europapark. Nice hotels great kids rides with no wait times. Amazing indoor water park it has everything! Quite a full on "holiday" though x

If I had the chance to take a mini break with a child that age, depending on interests, I’d look to see whether either the Playmobil park near Nuremberg in Germany, or Legoland Billund in Denmark, were open at this time of year. I’d probably combine the latter with Copenhagen depending on how long I wanted to be away for.

Or Stockholm! I went there pre-kids and have always wanted to return as a family.

(Sorry, I’m sure all are good options but didn’t mean to post twice 🤦‍♀️)

Vienna is great for little kids!
there are also kinder hotels in Austria that might offer something where she can meet other kids. She might surprise you about kids clubs if the activities are good enough!
they can be expensive but in March might be off season so worth a look

deplorabelle · 16/02/2025 22:39

It's a touch early in the year but I'm voting Stockholm too, for the Skansen museum in particular.

Or Munich for Deutsche Museum and the Englischer Garden plus a day trip to Neuschwanstein if you have the energy.

Or go to Paris or Amsterdam (save the carbon and get the Eurostar)
