For reasons I don’t know I lost contact with my older sister in 1987 and I would like to try and rebuild a relationship get to know her. The last time I saw her I was 6 years old and her 18 years old, I have spent days googling and seen a couple of news paper articles but nothing since 2013. I recognised her photo immediately she looks exactly the same just older. Does anyone have any tips on how to find a person in these circumstances and I am aware she might not want anything to do with me but I feel this is something I must do.

I’m always a bit wary about these requests after someone pointed out it could be an abusive ex trying to track down a fleeing partner. However, the most basic would be Local area Facebook or Nextdoor app group.
If she is still in the area the newspaper report was from she may see it, or someone who knows her may see it if she has moved away.

I have an ai app on my phone called perplexity. I've tried chat gpt and others, but this has worked the best for me.

Basically, I type in:

"I am looking for an old friend called [ ], she should be about 40 by now. She went to [ ] school, and the last time I remember she was living in [ ].

It's worked REALLY well for me! I've found 90% of old friends that way.

Type in the most 'likely' info to be found, like company names, old towns, universities, etc.

You could try contacting the paper which showed the photo and tell them who you are and do they know where she might be now, give them your info and ask if they will contact her on your behalf.

They can pass your message to her without getting involved.

Do not make a public post on social media. I would absolutely hate that as you’ll get people from all over the country trying to ‘do their bit’ and get themselves involved.

This is so strange. I was thinking only last night how AI could probably do a much better job than me of tracking down my mate Phil from uni that worked at PGL.

How terrifying - there is no privacy anywhere!
