Invisalign

Ive never bothered about my teeth before, but nowadays most people have lovely teeth. I have very uneven teeth with two points of cross bite, and I’d like to have them straightened by Invisalign, but I’m worried about pain, constant cleaning teeth, and how long it will take/cost.
Also I’m in my 50’s and have 4 crowns, would I be suitable?
Experiences please.

I had Invisalign for health reasons due to overlapping. The cost isn't cheap but I'm hoping it will reduce the need for costly more expensive work.

The question I'd ask in your situation is given the number of crowns you've had, is what dental work is a realistic prospect and how costly it's likely to be.

Keeping in mind the long term maintaince costs and the cosmetic benefits.

Some offer free consultations to see if it is possible. My son in his 20s went for one as had a crooked tooth at the front and was told he wouldn't be able to have it because his jaw was out of line. Seemed strange dentist had never mentioned it before also never recommended braces when a child.

My jaw was out of line. Part of the Invisalign was correcting this!

I was told at my free consultation that Invisalign wasn't suitable for me but a fixed metal brace was so I went with that in my late 40's.

money well spent. Great results.

I’ve recently decided to go for this, I pick up my braces in a couple of weeks. It’s estimated to take 4 months but dentist is saying 5/6 just incase any additional braces are needed. I was nervous at first but after seeing what my teeth could look like after I couldn’t not go for it (sorry I know that doesn’t actually answer your question). Just have a consultation and see what the options are, you’re not tied into anything just for asking about it

Best thing I ever did! I had braces in my teens but stopped wearing the retainer after a year and my teeth went wonky again. I was so self conscious of my teeth but Invisalign straightened them so quickly - I was done in 8 or 9 months. They were also able to pull my lower jaw forward (again).

It cost about £4,500 and I had to go to the dentist once or twice a month so it is a commitment. I also had two fillings re-done before starting.

How are you going with the Invisalign?

Yeh good thanks, I’m having my third aligner this week. I’ve got used to having it in now and taking it out has become easier. Haven’t noticed no drastic changes but the dentist said in a couple months time if I compare my aligner to my first I will see the change. I was concerned it wasn’t doing much but I suppose it is still early days. Did you end up going for it?

Not yet, it’s something I think about frequently though.

I was like that and put it off for a while but just went for it. I figured I keep looking into it so I obviously want it so just did it

I'm in my 50s with 2 crowns. I finished my Invisalign treatment in December after two years! It has made so much difference, I'm really pleased with the results. I mostly had no soreness even after changing aligners, my main issue was mouth ulcers on my tongue from unconscious contact with the aligners. The pace of change was slow - my first set of 32 aligners were changed every 14 days, and the second set of 15 was every 10 days. Between the two, I had 6 weeks of metal pegs and elastic bands that I absolutely hated.

They can be tricky to take out, but you can buy aligner hooks on Amazon that make it a breeze. Don't buy the Pul branded ones, the cheap ones do exactly the same.

Just coming back to this thread. Unfortunately I dithered so long that I got a problem with 2 of my teeth, and the dentist no longer advises it.
So if you’re considering it, don’t wait like I did.
