Daffodil watch and other signs of spring

Inspired by a thread about the UK’s malingering grey gloom, does anyone want to tell us about signs of spring in their area? Them daffy-down-dillys are bright gold specifically to cheer us all up. The green parts have been building up anticipation in my area for a while. I saw buds last week and there is one clump near the railway station that showed a flash of gold.

Anyone know anything about animals they’d like to add?

Starting to see birds looking to nest build 🐦

South of London. Snowdrops blooming. Daffs coming up but not blooming yet. Tulips small shoots coming up. I just weeded my front narrow flower bed round the bay window.
On Christmas day I was in the bath and heard a loud squawking noise. Looked out to see some wood pigeons* mating in a tree.
*I'm not 100% they were wood pigeons. That sort of thing anyway.

Saw the first blossoms in the park this week🌱

Wow user147… ! That’s early babies. We went for a walk round the park this morning and saw some ducks but they’re not pairing yet. More daffs with buds, the catkins are open and a few leaves on bushes starting to open.

Neighbour has had snowdrops since late December, ours are now out as well as
Daffs in the planters . Ground / boarder ones have sprouted . No sign of crocus yet ! But spring is starting.

Snowdrops have been out for a few weeks. Red camellia is a blaze of glory, white one is in bud. Rather bewilderingly the rosemary is in full lilac flower. I also spotted the first flower out on my fleabane yesterday. Running round my local park the crocus buds are up but not yet opened - another day or so I think for a carpet of purple.

My daphnne is flowering and smells incredible. Tête-à-tête are budding. Daffodils growing green leaves. Somerset.

My bright pink camellia is finally flowering, it's a bit late this year. Daffs, tulips and bluebells all coming up but no heads on them yet. My magnolia has fat buds on it, will be out in a few weeks. Lancashire here

I'm in Sussex. Hellebores are flowering in my garden and woodpeckers have started drumming on the local trees. Also today I heard a for the first time this year.

Oldraver · 16/02/2025 17:59

We've had a clump of snowdrops for a few weeks and OH told me on Saturday that the 'purple snowdrop' ie crocus is out in the back garden 😅

Lovely thread!

DH says he heard the frogs in our pond this week. I keep a little note of things like this, last year was 19 Feb.

There's a little patch of grass I walk past everyday and live seeing the daffs pop up they are nearly ready to bloom.

Also snowdrops and crocus galore at our local national trust place. A nature reserve near us does snowdrop Sundays where they open on a Sunday for a wander around looking at the snowdrops we are hoping to go next Sunday.
Not long until bluebells.

Also, it was so bright at 4.45 this evening. I do love the dark cosy nights of autumn and winter and prefer the autumn and winter to the spring and summer but I'm still looking forward to brighter days!

WaryCrow · 16/02/2025 18:29

Ooh we might have to wander out the other way and look for frogs and toads!

My tulip bulbs are through. I have to net them against the bastard squirrels but reckon I can take the nets off soon. We moved house last autumn so the garden is a bit of a magic mystery tour- waiting to see what comes up/ into flower.
