If a child can’t walk straight

Or swim or cycle straight, writes lopsided, can’t do their shoe laces or zips or put their shoes and coat on the right way around, but it’s not dyspraxia, what might it be?

Had a thorough eye test?

TeenToTwenties · 15/02/2025 18:30

How old?
In what way has dyspraxia been ruled out?

I was like this and am dyslexic. Swimming lessons were a nightmare.

They had the difficulties throughout childhood and then at 10 did a test where they had to draw and copy the line in the reflection on a mirror and they got that right so they wouldn’t diagnose dyspraxia

The child should be seen by a GP and have his/her eyes/ears checked.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/02/2025 18:54

Yeah, my looks clearly like dyspraxia child is apparently not dyspraxic because they managed one part of the test.

Mine's autistic and hypermobile so that covers some of the symptoms but even so... At least we had some diagnoses.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/02/2025 18:59

Ears?
Vestibular and proprioception sensory difficulties (wobbly walking/riding)

We had a physio for something else say that he could see why it might be dyspraxia so at least I am not the only one.

It’s not wobbly they just can’t do anything in a straight line

I have this. My parents were told it was my eyes. (I have a condition where my eyes shake. If I tilt my head they stop shaking which in turn affects my balance)
