Electric rice cooker

My electric rice cooker has been absolutely amazing - perfectly cooked rice every time. But, alas, it's very old and the non-stick bowl has some scratches.
Can anyone recommend their electric rice cooker, please?
*electric, not the type you put in the microwave.
Thanks!!

Jumping on the thread as I am looking at these too. I’d like one with a delayed start porridge setting that can steam veg too if possible . Hope you don’t mind me asking here OP

Can't you just replace the bowl?

I have the yum Asia panda from Amazon. It was my first rice cooker, no complaints so far! But in all honesty, don't really know what else I'd use it for other than white and brown, which are preset.

I just bought it because it was a nice balance of functionality and price, as these things can get mega expensive!

I iparaded from a rice cooker to a combination rice cooker-pressure cooker- slow cooker etc etc and love it. Instapot or Ninja are they go-to ones. But more expensive obviously.

We just bought a yum Asia tsumki one. Very happy with it. Haven’t tried porridge yet, but various rices and rice pudding worked nicely. Also uses slow cook function for pulled pork. It’s a ceramic pot inside

I have a Yum Asia Sakura. It's my first rice cooker and I'm totally in love with it!

toastofthetown · 15/02/2025 17:33

I have the Yum Asia Panda too and love it. I'd replace it tomorrow with he same if it broke. Despite the website say it serves 3, I find half a cup of rice is more like it for an adult serving than a full cup.

@olympicsrock do you mean oat porridge or rice porridge? It can definitely do rice porridge with a delayed start but I find the porridge setting too much for oat porridge and it bubbles up everywhere. The only way I can do it is to only use the keep warm setting, which I'm not sure if you can put on a timer. I've been meaning to check. That was with cheap rolled oats. I've heard people have more success with steel cut oats, or using a colander to shake excess starch off, or using jumbo oats. I haven't tried again though because I don't want to clear porridge out of every outlet again! I just leave the oats and water in overnight and ask my husband to switch it on keep warm when he goes to the kitchen before me.

It does have a steamer basket, but as the rice cooker has such a small footprint, it can't take many vegetables. I've only used it for dumplings so can't really comment on portions, but I think it would be the same for any 3 cups rice cooker.

@toastofthetown - for actual porridge the recipe book seems to suggest you use porridge setting with just the oats and water. Then add any milk after on keep warm setting and leave for 20 ish minutes. If you start with milk it will over boil due to milk boiling at lower temp

Sadly I can't. I've looked but it's not possible.

It was oats and water made using the recipe from the instruction manual which has boiled over for me. I can’t remember which oats I used on previous attempts because it was years ago - would have been rolled oats, maybe jumbo, maybe not - but each time it’s boiled over on the porridge (and the slow cook) settings. When I googled for solutions a lot of people had similar problems with oatmeal boiling over in rice cookers - and I’ve had similar issues with oats and water bubbling over in saucepans and the microwave.

I assume it must work for some people but for me using the keep warm setting reliably works, and gets it to the texture I like, with the added benefit of not needing to take apart every removable part of the rice cooker to scrub porridge off it!

Caspianberg · 15/02/2025 18:29

@toastofthetown ah thanks. I haven’t attempted it yet! So could be a disaster. Thanks for the keep warm tip

fruitpastille · 15/02/2025 18:32

We have a standard one from Aldi that is reliable and does the job. Plus a mini one (Judge) that DD likes to use for making lunches and after school snacks.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 15/02/2025 18:33

I've had several George ones from Asda. At £20 or so it doesn't break the bank.

Alwaystired2023 · 15/02/2025 18:36

We have the Judge one - I think they are made in Bristol? I love it it's very compact and easy, does 2 adults and 2 children just fine but don't think it would work for 4 adults

fruitpastille · 15/02/2025 18:38

Judge mini rice cooker £26 on amazon. It fits in a drawer when not in use.

PerfectRice · 15/02/2025 18:48

I need it to make enough for four adults usually (well, two adults and two teens) but more if we have people over for dinner.

You want to get one with stainless steel inner so it doesn’t scratch or flake in the future.

I ended up with an instant pot. I love it though. Best thing ever.

But I don’t do the rice in it anymore. I use a Pyrex jug and do it in the microwave.

olympicsrock · 16/02/2025 16:23

Thanks for the good advice about not doing oat porridge on a delayed setting ! Sounds a messy mistake !

username299 · 16/02/2025 16:28

I've got the Lakeland mini rice cooker. It's perfect.

The Sakura is probably a good size then. I've made rice for 8 in it. I use mine a lot to cook other things (often in with the rice). I follow this kid on Instagram (easy peasy Jordan) - there are lots of one pot recipes.
