International easter eggs 🐣

Weird question. I'm after buying a bunch of Easter eggs (edible, ideally chocolate ones) from around the world.

Any ideas of online shops I might try?

I've tried Googling but just keep getting webpages aimed at kids about Easter traditions in other countries 🤔

I think some countries don't really do Easter eggs! I know America don't or never used to.

You could try Belgian Easter eggs from a Belgian chocolatier.

Namely Leonidas.

I don't think it's a big thing in other countries

For Russia - Faberge still sell them (https://www.faberge.com/collections/egg-objet) they are a bit pricey and I don't think they are even made of chocolate, which is a bit of a spoiler for Easter.

In Scandinavia we do decorated paper eggs which split in half and are filled with pick n mix. You can pick the empty eggs in IKEA or online- they’re really beautiful. We then hide the children’s Easter eggs on the day - good fun for the whole family.

Leonidas or Godiva for Belgian Easter chocolates and Valrhona for French Easter chocolate.

Ferrero Rocher for Italian Easter chocolate. 🐥 🐥 🐥 🐥 🐥 🐥

Brilliant suggestions here, thank you!

In France the ‘traditional’ Easter eggs are mini egg sized and wrapped in foil all different colours. Lidl have them sometimes.

Italian from Venchi:

Aldi and Liddl both have some lovely European ones

It’s very difficult to get a chocolate egg in the US. I finally found them in Italian delis and they were from Italy. Even posh chocolatiers just looked blankly at me when I asked. You wouldn’t want one made out of standard American chocolate anyway.

TwoShades1 · 15/02/2025 10:45

Australia definitely does lots of chocolate eggs at Easter. Supermarkets full of them and posh ones from hand made places too. I’m Australian living in Australia though, so no idea on best places that could ship internationally.

Something different to find out about are the deep red dyed Greek Easter eggs. Lots of information on line, you can probably get the dye from eBay or Amazon to make them yourself. Polish them with a few drops of olive oil for a lovely shine.

My French DGM always gave us Lindt mini eggs wrapped in foil, Suchard mini praline eggs wrapped in foil in a tube, chocolate hens and bells with lots of decorative icing from a chocolatier. The bells bring the Easter chocolate in France, not the Easter bunny. There are French online supermarkets in the UK.

DM loves marzipan so I always get her Danish marzipan eggs from Scandikitchen. They also have the cardboard eggs to fill that a PP mentioned.

Not chocolate, but my German godmother always decorated eggs with us to make an Easter egg tree. She also gave us the cardboard eggs with sweets but I’m not sure if that was a her thing or a German thing!

Greek Easter isn’t actually the same date but I guess that doesn’t matter 😂 You can find the egg dye a PP suggested online or use paint or things like red cabbage, turmeric or onions to stain the eggs. There is a game you can play with the eggs, a bit like conkers, where you smash each other’s eggs.

In Norway we have paper/cardboard eggs that split in half. They are decorated beautifully in all different sizes. You can get really big ones!
You buy the eggs empty and then fill with sweets or chocolates that you choose.
These Nidar chocolates are really popular too at Easter.
You can buy the eggs at Nille.no

I am so incredibly grateful to you all. There are some fabulous ideas here that go so far beyond my plans for a bix of chocolate eggs from around the world. Thank you so much.

I don't think many countries do Easter eggs. Just some European countries and maybe Australia/NZ

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 15/02/2025 15:23

In France it's more common to find chocolate animals, particularly hens for some reason.
